Assistant Principal's Report

Miss Carly Epskamp

We have had another fabulous fortnight at DPS. We have had lots of students excelling in many different areas including Cross Country, Everest and classwork.

Cross Country

I loved seeing all of the students giving their best effort in Cross Country last week. I was particularly proud of the students who didn’t give up and kept running, even though they were not coming first, they showed persistence and that was admirable. Well done to all of the DPS students who participated, it was a great day.

Grandparents Day

We had such a great morning on Friday for Grandparents and Special Friends Day. All of the Grandparents had a great time in our classrooms and then enjoyed a tasty morning tea. It was a huge turnout and we really appreciate the time taken out of everyone’s day to join us onsite. Thanks to all involved!

Indigenous Assembly

Last week, we were lucky to host Ganga Giri at our Indigenous Assembly.  Two of our Level Five students, Shekhar and Vivaan wrote a piece about our Indigenous Assembly for you to read.

On Wednesday the 24th of May DPS had a special Indigenous Australian assembly in the gym. The Indigenous Australian named Ganga Giri showed us and spoke about how the digeridoo was made and he played a couple of songs and our students joined in respectfully to all the songs. Before the event I thought the person would just play the digeridoo but after the event I felt extremely amazed at the talent that Ganga Giri had when he played the digeridoo. The way he played it was exciting and he added some humour at the end of some of the songs. It was wonderful to see all the students being respectful and enjoying this experience, especially the new preps and grade ones. This was the best assembly of the year.

Wednesday was an extremely special day at Doncaster Primary School as we had a special guest come to play the aboriginal instrument, the digeridoo. Mr Ganga Giri really impressed us with all with his amazing Digeridoo skills. Before we went down to the gym, I was thinking that he was going to be dressed in aboriginal clothing with a digeridoo that looked really old and was going to come and play some tunes. It felt really good in the gym and everyone was saying that they haven’t been in the gym for an assembly for a long time. I thought that Mr Ganga did an awesome job in playing the digeridoo and I am really looking forward to having such fun assemblies in my leftover schooling time in Doncaster Primary School. Thank you!!
