Spanish Report

¡Hola, Familias de Lyndhurst!

We have had a fantastic start to the year in Spanish! It has been a joy introducing the Spanish language to our new Preps as well as learning about the culture of the Spanish speaking countries. Our preps walk down our corridors greeting everyone with an “Hola!” and have enjoyed playing with Spanish instruments and costumes and dancing Zumba!

Our grade 1s and 2s have been focusing on their reading and writing in Spanish and have learnt the “vocales” a, e, i, o, u. Ask them if they can sing you the vocales song (if they haven’t already done so!). They have also been learning about the weather and the seasons “los tiempos y estaciones.”

Our 3s and 6s have been working towards writing a grade book where they will introduce themselves and talk about what they like “me gusta” and don’t like “no me gusta”. The books will be available to view soon!

We are now looking forward to celebrating Harmony Day and due to popular demand, the Spanish room will transform into a Zumba dance floor for the day! Can’t wait to see the school dress up in “multicolores.”

Word of the Week: "Amistad" 'Friendship!'

In some Spanish speaking countries, Valentine's Day (El Día de los Enamorados) is known as "el Día del Amigo" (friend day) or "el Día de la amistad" (friendship day). Other months for friendship day are during March-July and even September.

When referring to male friends, say "amigo" (masculine o)

When referring to girl friends, say "amiga" (feminine a)

All friends are "amigos"

Struggling to pronounce our words of the week? Don't forget the vocales from last week! All vowels In Spanish words HAVE to make a sound and they ALWAYS make the same sound!

A as in alarm

E as in Erika

I as in igloo

O as in ornament (more of an aussie or sound)

U an in put

So have a go at saying a-mi-stad

Word of the Week: "Armonia" 'Harmony!'

The accent on the í indicates emphasis or stress on THAT letter. So it's pronounced

ar-mon-í-a.

Enjoy a fun "día de armonía" tomorrow!

¡Hasta luego!
