SCIENCE

Years 7 - 9 Assess On

All the issues on Assess On, have now been fixed and we are now up and running with the program.

Your child should be completing the questions set as a 'work requirement' early on in Term 2.

Thank you again for your patience with this program.

Student of the Week

Congratulations to Kaeili who completed his work requirement for Science last week. He made a model of the 'different states of matter' at home; I just love how he has represented this concept.

Miss Van Hennik was so impressed that she had to share his work with the Science faculty.

Well done Kaeili – I can't wait to see what you can produce next.

VCE Science – Meeting of the minds

Students taking on a VCE subject were asked to met in the NEW Drama auditorium last week to watch Mr Vallance play with liquid nitrogen, deflate/inflate balloons, introduce the Science captains,  listen to Ms Powson explain the importance of supporting each other and explain what it means to be a Science student @LHS.

I was throwing out pens and LED lights to those who could catch them in the audience! We also handed out order forms for the Lab coats. If you have lost yours; there are spare forms on the Science noticeboard in the ramp corridor of the school.  Orders will happen on the last day of term.

VCE Science - Immunology Day @GTAC

Friday 29April

Congratulations to the following students who were picked out of a hat to attend the prestigous Worldwide Immunology Day in the CBD;

  • Liam Bissells
  • Danielle Cummings
  • Johanna Dobson
  • Lenny Eisen
  • Emily Feakes
  • Kira Hughes
  • Emma Polhill
  • Brooke Smith
  • Brody Van Berendonck
  • YOU?

Unfortunately we have had one student pull out and we have a spare place.  If you are interested in attending the event where you will see world class speakers discuss Immunology (Unit 3 AOS 2) then make yourself known to Ms Colyer or Mr Vallance as soon as possible.

The only prerequisite is that you need to be studying VCE Unit 3 and 4 Biology in 2016.

Collaborative program with Technology

In a joint project with Wood Technology and Science; some in-depth conversations with Mr Grantham have been occurring.

At the moment his students are building an impressive greenhouse out of wooden frames and instead of using glass for the windows, they are going to use plastic bottles.

Next term, I will be asking students to bring in any empty 1.25 litre bottles.  We will need approximately 3,000 bottles!

Watch this space and congratulations to Trent, Mitchell and James in Mr Grantham's class for being so productive.

Ever wondered what your kids do all day?

Just a few snapshots of students as I walked the school; centrifugal force, gardening, SAC's.  The school is a buzz with Science and I love it!

Have a great break - make sure you are rested and we will see you back here safe and sound for Term 2; because SCIENCE!
