STUDENT SERVICES

Drum Beat
On Monday 8 March Kofi Kunkpe, a Ghanian drumming master, led around thirty students from across all year levels in an hour-long African drumming workshop.
The session concluded with a thunderous lunchtime performance in the Middle School quadrangle featuring singing and dancing.
Kofi moved from Ghana to Warburton four years ago. He runs percussion workshops across the state and he performs regularly in various bands. He will be appearing at the WomAdelaide world Music festival in March.
This event also marked the official launch of the 'LHS Drum Circle'; an informal collective of student percussionists led by teacher (and drummer) Tony Vallance. The collective will regularly perform throughout the year during lunchtimes outside the new PAC.

Peer Support
The Peer Support sessions have unfortunately come to an end this past week with the Year 11 and Year 7 students partaking in their sixth, and final session together.
Peer support is an amazing experience for both the Year 11 and Year 7 students. It’s a fantastic introduction to high school for Year 7 students and allows them to connect with students from different year levels to ensure they have a smooth transition.
Not only do the Year 7 students benefit from the Peer Support program, it also allows Year 11 students to display their leadership skills and form friendships with younger students.
In addition to learning and applying new skills, such as enforcing teamwork and dealing with confrontations between students, some of our Year 11 students have also recognised how rewarding working with younger people can be.
A huge thank you and congratulations to all the Year 11 Peer Support leaders; you all did a magnificent job in providing a fantastic program. A special mention to Mr Webb, Mrs Robbins and Mrs Francis for allowing the program to run.
