June Update

Water, Milk, Cheese and Bugs! A diverse month for students in Industry Links.

Karlie McGrath’s Year 10 General Science class have had a busy month exposed to a diverse range of experiences igniting inspiration for local jobs and linking the curriculum to memorable experiences for our local Shepparton High Students.

Kristy Elrington the Community Education Officer at GV Water attended and facilitated a workshop on the financial, health and environmental reasons why “Tap is Best.”

Students played many interactive activities having to guess the sugar content of many drinks available for sale and compared to the health benefits of sticking to tap water.

Students made cola in class and looked at all the bad ingredients and effects on student’s health.

Then a blind water testing proved that most preferred the taste of tap water in comparison to expensive imported water.

On Friday 8th June we,  along with Leigh McIntyre’s science class, braved the cold and headed over to Echuca for a fun jam-packed day at TwistED Science. Students looked at sustainable eating and they discovered the benefits to health and to the environment of utilising bugs as a food source. The bug pancakes were a hit... yuummm delicious!

Students also used the temperature dependent chemical  process to make delicious cottage cheese.

Students then enjoyed a ride on a paddle steamer for lunch whilst hearing about the local river system.
