2018 VCE Arts Camp
This year's Arts camp was a blast with both Visual and Performing Arts teachers and students heading to Portsea beach for three days to spend time with classmates and finish last minute performances or artworks.
The first day started with a sing along bus ride consisting of, Disney and musical songs. Once we arrived at the camp we got settled in and headed to our chosen subject workshop. Here we prepared what we were going to present to the rest of the camp on our presentation night.
After a filling dinner and dessert we went and got ready for the disco that night with the theme of, ‘Song Lyrics’. The disco was a fantastic night from singing, dancing, games and seeing everyone's creative costumes, ranging from songs like, ‘Postman Pat’ to ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’. After the disco we had a free time session where some students watched a movie. The Photography students went to the beach to get brilliant images or play the great game, ‘Ultimate Werewolf’.
The next morning, we started the day right with breakfast before heading off to our first workshop. Music students were practicing their band performances, Theatre students were learning about physical theatre, Drama students were rehearsing their upcoming ensembles and the Art students had models come in to help extract inspiration for artworks.
During the day we had the opportunity to go on the giant swing or play terrible Art student basketball, which was a great time to bond with others on the camp and create good memories. Later that day, we had our second session consisting of either, the same rehearsals with your groups or working on new content. We then had dinner of schnitzels and ice cream cake for dessert, before going to get ready for the presentation performance!
The performance really showed the wide range of talent that students at Lilydale High School have. You have Music students being able to set up tech equipment like professionals and being able to play multiple instruments effortlessly. Theatre students being able to put on a mind blowing performance with no scripts in hand, lights, sound and everything in just a short period of time. Drama students being able to create a short engaging performance to promote their ensemble night. Art students being able to create incredible artworks that look like they could take months to do, but in reality, a couple of hours. Photography students not only capturing the beautiful landscape that was surrounding us, but the beautiful people within the camp.
On the last day of camp we had a feast for breakfast with bacon, eggs, toast, cereal and pancakes, followed by a pack up of rooms.
Before we left the camp, we had a beach walk where we had an opportunity to relax and appreciate the campsite and our surroundings.
The long walk to the Portsea Pier was a great way to finish the camp and to connect with your teachers and classmates. Once the trailer of equipment was packed and we had lunch, we said our goodbyes to the Portsea camp and set off on yet another bus sing along.
I would like to thank the Performing Art and Visual Art teachers for orgainising the camp, whether it was transportation, cabin allocations or just dealing with a crazy group of Art students. I understand that sometimes, we can be a lot. This camp was an amazing way to help us connect with our class and develop a family like environment.
I would also like to thank the Portsea camp staff for providing a friendly campsite for all of us to enjoy and cooking us five incredible meals each day, in which although, we all felt very full afterwards, we greatly appreciated their hospitality.
