Year 9 Captains' Report

Recently there has been many events and opportunity’s around the school for Year 9 students.  We have had Reconciliation Week, Duke of Edinburgh excursions, Sport days, Tasmania camp deposit payment and Year 9 Health and Wellbeing Day.

Last week, was Reconciliation Week. Reconciliation means to restore friendly relations.  There were many involvements to the week, like the writers notebook prompt and the different bell music.  The music  was performed by the following artists;

  • Archie Roach - Took the children away
  • Baker Boy - Marryuna
  • No Fixed Address - We have survived
  • Paul Kelly - From little things, big things grow
  • Tiddas - Anthem
  • Warumpi Band - Black fella, white fella
  • Warumpi Band - My island home
  • Xavier Rudd - Mana
  • Yothu Yindi - Treaty

These artists are all indigenous, except for Paul Kelly (his song is about a historic indigenous event).

Last Friday at lunchtime, there were also some Year 9 Humanities students doing flash mob

speeches outside the Performing Arts Centre.

This semester, the Duke of Edinburgh class have been doing many community services within and outside the school. They have been cleaning up the school ground rubbish and rubbish around Lillydale Lake. They have also visited the Lilydale Aged Care facility twice.  It was a great experience for everyone, playing games and losing bingo with the elderly folk.

Over the past two weeks,  students have had the opportunity to sign up for a SPORT of their choice. This is a great way for students to show off their skills in their chosen sport, or try something new.  Their were many sports such as; football, soccer, netball etc.

This week, the Tasmania camp deposit payment $300 opened.  Make sure you get your money in quick, because it will be a fun and exiting experience that you will always remember.

Last Thursday, it was the Year 9 Health and Wellbeing Day. The boys went to the Lilydale Lawn Bowls Club and the girls went to the Lutheran Church in Lilydale.  It was a fun day for everyone.

For the boys, we all met at the Bowling cluband we split up into groups and did an activity where we all got to find out an interesting fact about each other. We then split off into smaller groups and gave each other compliments. We then watched a short video on mindfulness and had a discussion about it. We had a snack, then went off into groups. My group did AFL at the Lilydale oval, but other groups did meditation, basketball and lawn bowls. We came back to have lunch at the bowls club. Then we had three VCE students come in and talk about their experiences with resilience, which was really good. We then did some goal setting to finish the day.

The girls had an amazing time at the Lutheran church. When we arrived, we were split into small groups to talk about decision making and self talk.  After snack, we had the opportunity to chose two activities; such as a gym workout, aerobics, yoga, arts and crafts, meditation, mindfulness and walking the trail. Later on in the day, we had some guest VCE students to talk to us about resilience and never giving up. I'm sure all of the girls were inspired by their resilience.

Year 10 Captains' Report

The last two weeks have been eventful, if nothing else for the Year 9 and 10 cohort. Having participated in many sporting events and representing the school across a number of areas.

First,  the EIS Basketball team represented us, managing to secure great wins against Templestowe College and Rowville Sporting Academy.

Following that, we had the Intermediate Football team go out. We were represented by three LHS teams on the day, with our the EIS team winning the round comfortably.

That same day, our EIS Netball team participated against other schools winning the Grand final 33-17. The Intermediate Soccer team also played other schools winning 7-1 against Lilydale Heights.

All of our students and teams did a great job representing us and played really well.

Looking ahead to Monday18 to Thursday 21 June, the Year 10 students have their mid-year exams coming up. This is a fantastic time for students to demonstrate what they have learnt in class over the last semester.

Good luck to all students with their exams and we hope you try your hardest to get the best possible result.

  • Am I punctual to class?
