Year 8

Camps

The Year 8s are currently experiencing their Homeroom camp at Phillip Island.  Each class travels to Cypress Lodge and spends 3 days and 2 nights on camp.  The following students have written a short reflection about their recent camp experience:

My 8.1 class were the second class to go on camp this term and there was so much to do when we got there.  We went to the Phillip Island Adventure Park to do activities such as the giant swing, flying fox and the high ropes course.  This was challenging but fun at the same time.  After these activities, we went back to Cypress Lodge and got ready to go surfing.  I liked surfing the best because I hadn't done it before.  After dinner, we went to Wonthaggi indoor pool to play underwater hockey and a different version of water polo.  The following day, we all went on a 22km bike ride.  We rode to Rhyll from Amaze 'n' Things and back.  This was challenging but enjoyable too.  After this, we went for another great surf this was the best surf whilst we were there.  After we had been tired out, we headed back to the lodge, got dressed and then went into Cowes to get some lollies for our movie night.  The movie we watched was called ‘The Great Wall’ and it was really good.  On our last day, we went to the sand dunes.  These were a lot higher than Year 7 and only about eight people went down it.  Next we went to the Vietnam Veterans’ Museum and saw a light show explaining what happened in the war.  We then went and saw some of the real items that were used in the war.  I really liked this year’s camp and I hope the rest of the year level will as well.

Andrew Loffel (8.1)

This year, each Year 8 class gets the opportunity to go on camp to Phillip Island.  I was lucky enough to be the first class to go and experience all the different activities.  We did all kinds of different things like bike riding, surfing, under water hockey, high ropes and also visiting the Vietnam Veterans’ Museum.  It was a great opportunity for all of the class to bond and get to know each other’s interests.

In Week 3 of Term 2, my class ventured to Phillip Island.  We arrived at about 10:00 am and had almost no time to settle in before we were thrown into the surf.  Literally.  We started our camp experience with lunch and then headed off to the adventure park, where we participated in a ropes course, giant swing and flying fox.  We followed that up with a quick surf and then it was off to the Wonthaggi pool.  On the second day, we were up bright and early to go on a 22 km bike ride across the terrain of Phillip Island.  After this, it was a quick surf and then a movie night.  On the third day, we packed up but headed to the sand dunes before we left for home.  On our way home, we had a stop at the Vietnam Veterans’ Museum which was quite interesting.  Just before we drove home, we stopped in San Remo for lunch.  All in all, it was a great experience.

Flynn Baird (8.1)

We were the third class to go on camp.  We left school at 9.00am and got there at about 10.30-11am. When we got there, we organised our rooms and then unpacked.  We then had some lunch and went to the adventure park.  The activities we did at the adventure park were high ropes, giant swing and a flying fox.  We all had a good time there but it was time to go.  On Wednesday, we went surfing after breakfast but before this activity, we went for a beach walk and then we went surfing for about hour and a half and it was good fun.  Later on after lunch, we went on a bike ride.  It was one hour and a half hours long and was about 16kms and after that we went to Woolworths for a snack for our movie night.  On the last day, we packed up and then went to the sand dunes and then we travelled back to school.  Overall, it was a good time at camp and we all in enjoyed it.
