Health

What an exciting start to the year. All classes have been exploring our theme of relationships and resilience.

For the year 3-7s we have started the year with many team based challenges. These included blindfolded obstacle courses, cup stacking challenges, passing the ball with our feet along a wall and crossing the ‘lava river’. All of these activities were designed to encourage positive communication, challenge persistence and to prompt conversations about how teams work together to be successful. We have had many discussions about identity and continue to explore what makes us individuals and how others have an influence on who we become.

Receptions-2s have also had a great start to the year exploring different feelings, responses to challenges and discovering what personal strengths we all are able to build upon. We have read lots of stories, worked with different groups and shared experiences to help others learn.

Each week in health we have a different word to focus on and a quote or question to think about. These are displayed on my black and white display peg board and also on the windows outside my room. Feel free to discuss these with your children and encourage them to show resilience when faced with a challenge!

Wishing you all a wonderful end to the term! Mrs Foley

The students in Room 5A have settled into the school year exceptionally well. We have had a very busy 6 weeks with lots of new learning. Our science topic this term is living things. We have been observing and exploring the life cycle of tadpoles. In literacy, we have been looking for wow words in our shared reading text. The children have also participated in guided interactive writing sessions.

Rooms 4 & 19

This year rooms 4 and 19 will be working together as buddies, once a week in ‘Discovery time’. So far this term, we have been getting to know everyone, wondering and discovering more about each other and learning how to work with our big and small buddies.

We’ve done portraits of each other and hung them up on the window on a mural. – Olive

We watched a clip about Tip and Tom solving a problem. We learnt stuff about each other like our favourite colours. – Milly

We’ve talked about friendship and we read Baboon’s nest about sharing.  Outside we made a piece of art with sticks to make our buddies, what they do or look like. – Ari

We have been learning about friendship, we made a rainbow fish.  Reading with our buddies and how to retell a story. – Charlotte

Learning about how we are like, if we have been having a good day and are alright. We watched the rainbow fish and we swap who we work with. At first we were shy but now we are getting used to it. – Hendrix

We made a rainbow fish with each other. The buddies asked us what we liked and then they wrote it down and then we made a picture with a collection of things from nature. - Imogen

Room 31

This term in Art, The Quad is focusing on the native plants of the foreshore. We are creating various types of artwork that showcase the important natives that exist at the beach either as sand binders, habitat providers or nectar for wildlife.

It is important for us to be able to recognise the various native plants and weeds when we do revegetation and weed eradication down at the Largs Bay foreshore in term 2.

These are some samples of the art work created so far.

Room 17

Our buddies are from Room 20 and they are year 2’s. They interviewed us about our favourite things to do. We did silent reading and they read their reader to us. We asked some questions about the book and gave them feedback.

We had a great experience with our buddies!

ROOM 10

Patterns in Maths

In room 10 we have been creating repeating patterns using letters to describe and label the pattern. Patterns usually follow a set of rules and combinations may include AB, ABB, AAB, etc. Our investigation of patterns this term also consisted of finding patterns both outdoors and in picture books. We then created our own pattern fish for display.
