VCAL

VCAL Learning Outcomes are the frameworks for the Personal Development Applied Learning Program here at St Bede’s College.  Process, Practice and Proficiency Excursions are the focus of work in Term 4.  Students are asked to actively engage in all excursions to the best of their ability; they must competently demonstrate the process of each task.  Wake Boarding, Canoeing and High Ropes Tree Surfing all demand attention to detail with respect to the OHS implications.  This correlates to the safety implications and requirements that all students deal with at TAFE and on their SWL (Structured Work Learning).  At St Bede’s College we aim to provide enough varied and challenging opportunities to the VCAL Personal Development students so they gain the skills and awareness to help them transition to the work force.

VCAL Food Security Network Garden

The second group of VCAL students have been involved in the cultivation of herbs and green leafy vegetables in conjunction with the education provider “Food Security Network”.

The mission of the Food Security Network is to “create practical & meaningful ways to engage in solving Food Insecurity in Australia”.

Thursday November 1st saw the second crop for the year, of herbs and green leafy vegetables harvested by the VCAL students. The harvest exceeded expectation in size, quality and quantity. The crop were planted in early August and has had a growing period of ten weeks. The students have worked tirelessly with planting, weeding, watering and fertilizing the crop to ensure a healthy crop. The crops was the delivered to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre where it was distributed to their clients from the food bank or used in the kitchen to provide daily lunches  for their clients.

We would like to thank Chris Saray, Director of the Food Security Network who has helped us establish this garden and provide guidance throughout the year.

We look forward to continuing this program with Chris Saray and his staff in 2019.
