Year 3 - Year 5
Assistant Principal's Report
Welcome everyone to another fortnight of news and information. I must say, I am excited about the weather warming up and the outdoor learning opportunities that come with it.
I would like to give a huge welcome to the newest member of our team this term, Miss Lenie Vamvesos who is taking over the teaching and learning in Year 4 - M30 for Mrs Ashtyn Price. It was wonderful to be able to offer transition time between the two teachers as I am confident this will be supportive to all parties. The classroom expectations and routine will remain the same and Ms V. has already been involved in team meetings and planning.
Across the Year 3 classrooms, the team are placing reading under the spotlight with a focus on all students reaching the standard. You can support your child by continuing to read with them each night. Children in Year Three are still developing fluency, decoding and comprehension in their reading and benefit from reading aloud to their parents. Do not be fooled into thinking reading each night is only for our junior school students! Students in Year 3 are also focusing on learning and improving their multiplication skills. This is different to ‘skip counting’ and requires students to use a variety of strategies that will ultimately support automatic recall of multiplication facts.
Our Year 4 students are back from camp with some great stories to tell. Thank you to the teachers and the education support staff that gave up their time to be with and share this experience with our wonderful students. Be sure to check out the photos included in this edition.
Poetry is currently the writing focus across the school and the Year 5 students are loving it! Across the Year 5 classrooms, you will find strong examples of descriptive poetry presented as:
It is really wonderful to see the student voice behind each piece and the support teachers are giving to ensure all students achieve success to a high standard. Please support your child by asking them about their writing at home.
Enjoy the next two weeks everyone,
Kind Regards
