Year Prep - Year 2

Assistant Principal's Report

Junior School News

Hello again after what has been a much, much warmer week!  It has been wonderful to be outside in the sunshine, seeing the students enjoying the warmth and seeing them enjoying our new playground equipment which has been most popular.

This week has seen us run another Step-into-Prep session, that has again gone incredibly smoothly, with our 2019 Preps appearing very comfortable and relaxed as they familiarise themselves with school life.  Our 2018 Preps are looking more and more like Year Ones each day, and showing that they are getting ready to make that big step up as well.  Students have been learning about sharing collections out equally in Numeracy and learning all about how different families celebrate special events, so make sure that you ask them about this exciting learning at home.

Year Ones have continued to learn all about local history and are very excited to be attending Coal Creek for their excursion this coming Monday. Teachers have been busily planning and organising this excursion and are just as excited as the students.  In Numeracy, having learned about addition, and then having learned about subtraction, students are now learning all about how these are 'opposite' operations.  Students have been discussing fact families and how we can use 3 numbers to make addition and subtraction equations ie 5 + 7 = 12 and 12 - 7 =5.  The teachers reliably inform me that students have particularly enjoyed their current writing unit which has been all about poetry.  Students have been involved in a lot of sensory experiences so that they can write about the 5 senses and created some fantastic shape poems.

There also seems to be a real air of excitement in the Year Two corridor this week as the Year Two sleepover is upon us! In fact, this will be taking place as this newsletter is released. Staff have planned a number of fun experiences for the students with cup painting, lego jumping castles, movies and of course, pizza for dinner.  There are sure to be some very tired Year Two students, and teachers, on Saturday morning!  Over the past fortnight, Year Two students have also taken a real shine to our unit of work on poetry, and some of their shape poems look incredible.  Some students are even attempting free verse poems which is a fantastic effort

This will be our last newsletter prior to our Spring holiday break, so I hope that everyone has a happy and relaxing break. It's hard to believe that Term Four is almost upon us, but the improving weather has been most welcome!

Until next term, I hope that everyone stays safe.

Regards

Danny Forster
