VET Students 2017 Report from NCVER

This report looks at the state of VET training in Australia. There’s lots of information about where people train and how they train, and it’s worth looking at the data if you’re interested in VET.

Although it’s not wise to look at any statistic in isolation, the data shows you have a better chance of finishing a program if you complete it through school (53.5%) vs through TAFE (43.2%) or a private provider (47.5%) – which may be worth considering if you’re looking at a VET in Schools program.

The full report is here -

Institute Open Days 2018

Please use this link to access the Open Days dates for Victoria:  http://vtac.edu.au/opendays.html

Attending an Open Day is one of the best ways to complement your post-secondary course research.  To ensure you make the most out of the Open Days you attend here are some steps to help you plan and prepare.

1. Make a plan

  • With so many open days happening at once be sure to plan in advance.   A few institutions hold their open days earlier than usual or on the same day
  • Narrow down your options to make a shortlist of the institutions you are most interested in so you don’t tire yourself out attending every single open day

2. Come prepared

  • You will need to make a schedule for each open day so you know what time you need to be there and which workshops to attend.  All details will be on the Institute website to research before you go
  • Find out parking and public transport information in advance
  • Bring a family member or friend to keep you company and give you a second opinion

3. Talk to the right people

  • Write down a list of questions in advance
  • Don’t be afraid to speak up at information sessions; this is a life-changing decision so make sure you don’t leave with questions unanswered

4. Explore the campus

  • Check out the facilities that the campus offers and explore the buildings you will most likely be studying in
  • Look beyond all the hype and balloons. Ask yourself: can I really see myself here?
  • Check out your transport options and do a trial run

5. Enjoy yourself

  • Make a day of it with your friends and family. Once you’ve found out what you need to know, enjoy the day!
