We’re all in this Together – High School Musical

“We’re all in this together”, these are the lyrics from one of the songs from the very popular High School Musical movie of the early 2000s. St. Peter’s College is proud to bring this show back to life with the stage version. A dedicated team of staff and students have been working terrifically hard over the course of this year. Next week all of this hard work will finally come together as the College performs three evening performances as well as a Saturday matinee performance. A production this size takes the collective talents and energy of a significant number of staff and an even greater number of actors and backstage crew. Tickets are selling fast so please don’t miss this opportunity to witness and support our wonderfully talented students. Details of how to book tickets can be found elsewhere in this newsletter or on our web-site.

“Chookas” to everyone involved.

Solomon Islands Trivia Night

Just on 350 staff, students, parents and friends came together last Friday night for a fund-raising Trivia Night to raise money for the Bishop Epalle School. 14 students, 4 staff and 1 student mentor, Emily Lace (School Captain – West), class of 2017, will be travelling to the Solomon Islands towards the end of November this year. They will be presenting a sizeable cheque to Principal Jackson Meke if Friday night was anything to go by. Money raised on the night totalled over $15,000. This is on top of $7,000 already raised. I’d like to thank all those involved, very ably led by Mrs April Hampson. Whilst the money raised was important, the wonderful community feel that was present on the night was just as valuable. My thanks is again extended to all who contributed to a wonderful night.

Social Justice Camp

Congratulations to the nineteen Year 10 and Year 11 students who attended the Social Justice Camp last week at Rawson. This camp is sponsored by the Sale Catholic Education Office and brought together staff and students from the seven secondary Catholic Schools to explore current Social Justice issues. These are then brought back to each college with the themes then explored at the local school level. Reports back from both staff and students were extremely positive. Here are just a couple of responses from staff and students:

Hello Mr Black, I went on the Social Justice Camp in Rawson last week and it was an amazing experience. I would like to just thank you and the college for funding the experience for us, we appreciate it so much.  Many good things to come from that trip!

Hi Mr Black, I would just like to say thanks for giving the social justice team a great and an unforgettable experience at Rawson village.  Thanks

Hi, I just wanted you to know that all the students who went to the Social Justice Camp were great ambassadors for our College. They fully immersed themselves in the program and expressed their gratitude to me for being chosen to attend after the camp.  The students learned a lot about leadership and key characteristics of Catholic Social Justice over the three days and they will be following up in the next.

Science Week

This week we have been inspired by the talents of our science staff and the passion for learning science from our students. St. Peter’s College vision for learning, in part, is inclusive of students actively engaged in their learning. Science provides many opportunities for students to become “active learners”. The activities conducted this week included: a biology show, dissections, robotics, drone flights, a science fair, gyrocopters and building mousetrap cars. It is wonderful to see students passionate about exploring the mysteries of science. I congratulate all for their involvement.

Enjoy the week ahead.
