Primary School Regional Championships

Primary School Regional Championships

A big big thank you for all those who represented the school!

On the 16th of October 2019, 14 participants from the upper year levels of the school went to the Northern Metropolitan Regional Athletics carnival at the Meadowglen International Athletics Track in Whittlesea.  It was cold with threatening rain and thunderstorms forecasted, so all events ran as timed finals. The early schedule caught out the 9-10 boys relay team, so with only 3 members of the team at the track (Alfie, Luca and Edward) and with the students being marshalled it looked like they would have to forfeit.  Luckily, Rania agreed to step in at the last minute as the students were being led to their changeover zones, so they still got to run their race. They did well getting a time of 1:03.87 placing 11th, though only by 0.74 seconds behind 8th place. The 11 boys (Demos, Edward, Jacques and James) also did well in their relay with a time of 59.19 seconds winning a bronze medal!

The students in individual events all did extremely well. First up was Orla with a speeding time of 5:48.97 in the 1500m putting her at 4th, then was Josh with his high jump, jumping a massive 1.30 metres, placing at 10th. Afterwards was Dylan in shot put with a whopping 8.17 metres placing him at 13th, next was James with a flying 29.35 seconds in the 200 metre sprint winning a silver medal, coming after was Luca jumping a sizzling 1.35 metres in high jump gifting him a gold medal! After this there was Lucy with a firing 8.90 metres in her triple jump coming in a close 4th, followed by Rania with her sizzling 16.64 seconds in her 80 metre hurdles followed by both Luca and James with their’s, Luca ran a flaring 15.41 putting him in 6th place and James running a firing 13.98 putting him in equal 4th. Then the last two running 800 metres, Indigo running a speedy 3:14.57 coming 11th and Orla flying at a 2:58.28 placing her in 6th.

That was all that happened at the Regional Primary Athletics carnival. Everyone that participated did awesomely, two participants going on to state, James for the 200m and Luca for the high jump. The State Athletics carnival was held a week later at Lakeside Stadium at Albert Park and it was a hot and windy 35 degrees. James came 10th missing the final,  running a 29.36s and Luca won high jump, jumping a massive 1.38 metres. Congratulations to Luca Guiney, our very own 2019 State Champion from Clifton Hill Primary School.

Well that’s all from me, and maybe next year you too will have the awesome opportunity to run at the Regional Athletics carnival to represent our school.
