Principal's Message

Carols by Candlelight Rehearsal

Dear Parents and Carers,

As another busy year draws to a close, this newsletter is packed full of student achievements, informs you of some changes for 2020 and provides an opportunity to focus on our school value of "Gratitude".

Firstly, a huge thank you is extended to our community who, under the incredible lead of Kate Lovett and the Fair Committee, created a wonderful day that showcased team spirit, hard work and plenty of fun.  It's days like our Fair day that serve as a reminder of the community that has been created at Gold Street; one that I am so proud to be a part of.  The Fair raised close to $95 000!  These funds will be used to upgrade grounds and gardens.

Classroom Teachers and Allocations 2020

Class composition for 2020 is close to being finalised and class lists with teachers will be sent home via Compass on Monday afternoon.  On Tuesday morning, students will participate in a transition session with their new teachers in their new classrooms.

Staffing changes

2019 sees us farewelling Jocelyn Kassis who has been teaching at Gold Street for twenty-four years.  Joc is joining her family business and we thank her for many, many years of dedication, quality teaching and friendship.  Another long term staff member of twelve years, Leah Mariani will be moving from Education Support to teaching next year.  She will be greatly missed by children and staff alike.  Fiona Freeman and Ella Baxter joined us in 2019 and are both moving on and we thank them for their contribution to the teaching and learning of our children.  Rachel Watkins and Jarrod Ward are both taking leave for 2020.

In 2020 we welcome Lizzie Rennie (Teaching Specialist, currently teaching at Glen Waverly PS), Jason Caputo (experienced teacher, currently teaching at Port Melbourne PS), Sophie Gunn (experienced teacher, currently teaching at Alphington PS) and Serena Gu (experienced Mandarin teacher, currently teaching at Officer SC) to Gold Street.

Additional Parent Teacher Interview Session

Based on feedback from our recent Parent Survey (see article in this edition), we are introducing a parent teacher interview mid term 1 (March 4) to allow you the chance to meet with your teacher and share information about your child.  This will be a student free day.

I wish you all a safe and relaxing break over the summer period.  The prep courtyard is commencing construction next week and we hope to see a vibrant new space ready for the start of the 2020 school year.
