Envision Hands

Envision Hands - Bottle Top Collecting

Our names are Clio  and Sophie  and we are both in 5CW. We have been running a bottle top collection at school.

We are collecting the bottle tops to give to a company called Envision Hands. They are an organisation that collects plastic bottle tops to create artificial limbs for people in developing countries. They melt down the bottle tops and then create a plastic filament that they put into the 3D printer. Then they print out parts and put them together to create the limb. Besides bottle tops, they also collect brackets from orthodontic braces, that have been recycled, to hold the artificial limbs together.

We are collecting plastic bottle tops that are labelled type 2 & 4.  It can’t be a lid off any kind of jar or yogurt lid, it needs to be a lid from a plastic milk bottle, a plastic soft drink bottle or a plastic juice bottle. It needs to be something with a plastic cap, it cannot be metal.

We are collecting them next to the stairs that lead up to the library. There is a box there and that is where we are collecting them. After we have collected large quantities, we give them to Envision Hands. In fact, we have collected 7000 so far! By the end of the year we will have collected over 10,000!

If you want to help even more, you can donate some money to help their organisation continue helping people in developing countries who are in need of artificial limbs.
