Intermediate Girl’s Netball
On Friday the 21st June two teams of year 9 and 10 girls competed at Waverley Netball Centre in the Monash division netball tournament. Both teams played against teams from John Monash, Wellington, South Oakleigh and Wheelers Hill. Both teams displayed fantastic sportsmanship and enthusiasm throughout the day and should be commended for their efforts on the day.
The A team played at a very high level all day and worked together tremendously all day despite an interrupted training schedule. They started the day off strong, winning 31-4 in their first game against John Monash. Their dominance continued with a 52-4 win over Wellington. The girls showing that they worked together like a well-oiled machine from the defensive end down to the shooters. This continued into the third game against South Oakleigh with the A team winning 46-3. They entered their fourth and final game having only had 11 points scored against them at that stage. The final game was against Wheelers Hill, who were also coming into the game undefeated. With the winner going through the EMR round. The girls were nervous to begin with and had a few clumsy mistakes but the defensive unit of team Kaitlyn and Caitlin held strong in the goal circle against two sharp shooters from Wheelers Hill. Forcing them into making mistakes and the outstanding midcourt of Hayley, Ella, Tilly, Olivia S and Amelia working it up into the shooters. Chelsea, Olivia R, Jorja and Bridget all made key shots when under the pump from Wheelers Hill. The girls were able to capitalise on the mistakes of the other team and utilise them to their advantage. The match finishing with a win to Brentwood 28-15, with the result being more one sided than the game appeared from watching. Even one of the Brentwood girls thinking they had lost.
The B team also had a very successful day with outstanding coaching from student coaches Lara and Annabelle. The team did not lose a game and only had 16 points scored against them all day. They started the day off with a 36-5 win against John Monash, followed by a 34-1 win against Wellington. They showed their dominance against a C team from Wheelers Hill winning 46-0 and finishing off the day with their final win against Wheelers Hill B 23-10. The team should be extremely proud about how they played throughout the day!
Congratulations to both teams and good luck to the A team when they compete in the Eastern Metro Region finals on the 9th of August!
Special thanks to Charlotte Durbridge who came as a scorer because she could not play due to injury.

EMR XC
The EMR cross country was held last week on Tuesday in true cross country conditions – cold,
miserable and wet. However, our runners blocked out the conditions and ran their best and our overall school results were amazing. The team that qualified from the Monash Division XC had been training twice a week before school with Carla Caminiti and Eliza Chancellor, and they were fed a well-earned bacon & eggs breakfast after each training session.
We had teams (consist of top 4 students) on the podium all day. So lots of medals came back to school!

Intermediate Boy’s Badminton
The level of interest to make the Brentwood Intermediate boys badminton team is extremely high. We had a number of selection trial sessions with a large number of students that were extremely competitive. We finally decided on our strongest two teams who competed at the Monash Division round robin day last week. All schools in our region fielded teams to compete, which is fantastic!
The A team started the day with a bye and a good chance to warm up and to watch the competition. The A team them had 4 matches to win if they wanted to progress to EMR. They won against Wheelers Hill 6-0, South Oakleigh 6-0 and Wellington 5-1. In our last match, both Brentwood and John Monash Science School were undefeated throughout the day. So the winner between these two teams would progress to EMR. The Brentwood A team played so well and won 4-2. Well done!
The B team also had a full draw with the inclusion of a mixed team. There were 5 games to win today. The B team defeated Wheelers Hill B 6-0, Wellington B 5-1, South Oakleigh mixed team 6-0, South Oakleigh B 5-1, and John Monash Science School. Brentwood’s B team also won their pool of teams. Well done!
A team members – Richard Pham, Ian Kim, Nicholas The, Davin Cheng, Dustin Kim
B team members – Andrew Park, Jasper Chen, Dinesh Mohan, Jun Gao, Isaac Lee
Best of luck at the EMR finals on Friday August 2.
