Art News

Last week the students in Year 6 and this week those in Year 5 will be learning to fold an origami paper crane. These beautifully crafted paper birds are traditionally made in Japanese Primary schools and donated to a permanent display in Hiroshima's peace park. The peace park invites schools from all over the world to send paper cranes to be part of their display. I will be extending an invitation to our students to make some more cranes to be sent to the organizers of the student display in Hiroshima. Thanks in advance to those students who volunteer to make extra paper cranes and for being part of the project. It is exciting to think your art will be 'going global'!

The small display in the school foyer entitled Love, Peace and Freedom reminds us all of what's important in life and what is often taken for granted. When words can seem harsh and create tension, disagreement and anger, art can make make you stop and think and children's art makes you stop, think and feel.

Looking forward to hearing from the organizers that our cranes have safely landed in Japan.
