PSSA Swimming Dubbo

On Thursday March 14th our representative students travelled to Dubbo where they trialled for placement in the PSSA Western team; Emma Craig, Jordan Grimson, Preston Harris, Beau Howell, Isabella Piper, Kirsten Piper, Tamsyn Ritchie, and Fergus Smith. Several of the students had individual events and we also had a senior girls and a junior boys relay team.

Individual Events

Many of the students swam personal best times and were placed first in their heats. Several placed in the top ten in their age group including; Emma Craig  50m Backstroke (9th), Preston Harris 50m Freestyle (6th) and  200m IM (9th) and Tamsyn Ritchie 50m Freestyle (10th).

Relays

The junior boys relay team consisted of Fergus Smith, Beau Howell, Jordan Grimson and Preston Harris. The senior girls relay team consisted of Emma Craig,  Isabella Piper and Tamsyn Ritchie. Both teams were very excited about having the opportunity to swim and they all displayed a tremendous effort to swim their best. The boys took 0.97 seconds off their time where they placed 25th overall and the girls took 4.48 seconds from their time placing them at 10th overall.

They all enjoyed the competition and were very encouraging of one another throughout the day, it was a fantastic experience for our students and many thanks to the families for all of their support.

Open Girls League Tag

On Tuesday 12th March the open girls travelled to Cootamundra to compete in a league tag competition gala day run by CRL. It was an excellent day and the girls did plenty of training in preparation for the day against our boys team at school. There was a big range of experience with some who have played for several years and others who were learning the game altogether.

The girls had a very tough team for their first game; Hennessy Catholic College who had two teams and many players. Our girls held out very well, with Abbie Grant getting the first try of the game and Imogen Pye going on to score another try in the second half, but unfortunately Hennessy were able to catch up then finish off with a couple of runaway tries.

Our second game was up against Gundagai High School. It was a very exciting game with lots of close calls in the first half. Our superb defence with our excellent tagging and our fullbacks running plenty of metres were able to save several tries from being scored against us. Mackella Pye did some outstanding play getting two tries with the team assisting with some great attack manoeuvres. Unfortunately we had an overall loss to Gundagai. It was extremely pleasing to see the significant progress the girls made as a team overall.

The girls really worked hard and it was a wonderful day. As a team they decided to award Tia Boland ‘player of the day’.  A big congratulations to all the girls and many thanks to Sam Pye for her support throughout the day.
