SRC Updates

Biggest Morning Tea
On Thursday the 23rd of May, our school was lucky enough to be a part of Australia's Biggest Morning Tea.
We signed up for it months in advance and the Cancer Council were kind enough to send us a goody bag filled with banners, streamers and balloons, all in the blue and yellow theme. This was great because we were able to set up our table and outside area with decorations which made it fun for everyone.
Heaps of students made a lot of very yummy snacks, both sweet and savoury. There was everything from banoffee pie, fairy bread, lamingtons, muffins, tarts, iced tea, and loads of other yummy treats.
Not only did the students and teachers bring in snacks, but they brought in a donation. We had one of the SRC representatives read a little speech about what this day is about, and then we dug in. After we stuffed out bellies full of yummy food, we proceeded to clean up after each other.
It was a fantastic day, and we ended up raiding $223.45 for the Cancer Council.
Urban Landscape Project @ WRS
The company 'Urban Landscape Projects' have made a visit to our school to discuss possible changes to the school grounds that would hopefully make it safer for students and visitors when arriving to school, and also to revamp the structure of our playground area. It was good to see a wide variety of excellent ideas coming from our team.
They got us to begin with the basics of landscaping with a large map of Hurstville. We had to find specific things like shops, parks, rivers, etc., Most importantly, our school. Once this was done, they gave us a topographical map of our school. We were asked to draw something different, change the landscape somehow and just put ideas out that we think would benefit our school in the future, years after we leave. We are now just waiting for them to return to us with their interpretation of our ideas for a final discussion, and we will go on from there, revamping the school to be even better than it already is.
Centennial Park School tour and group SRC meeting
The Woniora Road School and Rivendell School SRCs were invited to Centennial Park school for a tour of the school. We all had a great time discussions possible things that our school could collectively do. Rumours of an interschool 'social' have been spreading, and we can confirm that this is true. The SRCs all split into random groups that had specific roles such as entertainment, food and beverage table, etc., and so far, we are planning for it to occur after the HSC exams are complete. This will not interfere with our school's end of year formal, but be a separate event where our three schools can mingle and have a fun night together.
General updates
This term, we have continued to have our weekly Monday meetings that allow us to discuss future things that are happening this term, and what we want to do in our final term as the SRC.
These meetings have continued to be a success, and we have improved the frequency of these meetings over time. Everyone has great ideas every week, and it is good to see such a well-working SRC team. Things we have discussed lately are more interschool meetings and events, the biggest morning tea, changes to our school playground, which are all mentioned above. Additionally, we have discussed possible excursions.
