Principal's message
We have just reached the halfway point of the year and I'm sure all staff, students and families are happy to welcome the holiday break.
There has been a number of significant achievements and events that have taken place this term which have and will continue to shape the dynamics of the school. A big congratulations to ‘The Wizards’ radio program and 90.1FM 2NBC for accepting a very generous donation from Club Rivers in Riverwood. This donation will help continue the wonderful work the community radio station provides for our students, whilst also being able to purchase new equipment and allowing us to expand the program beyond the station's four walls.
The SRC has been busy organising fundraisers to support the Cancer Council, engaging in inter-school meetings with Centennial and Rivendell, and collaborating with Urban Landscapes to redesign the school playground. Term 3 will be the last term for this current SRC to create change and provide a voice for the student cohort. Well done and thank you for your continuous efforts over the last year. In regards to our new SRC for 2019-2020, we will be recruiting a new SRC via an application process later in the term. Woniora Road School staff highly encourage all interested students to apply.
On a staffing note, Woniora Road School would like to congratulate our school counsellor Sarah Coffey on accepting the role of senior psychologist. As a part of this role, she will be responsible for overseeing and providing professional learning to over 18 different school counsellors within the Ultimo Network. Another congratulations goes out to Elizabeth Finn, who will be replacing Sarah Coffey as our school counsellor. Elizabeth will be available to work with students and families on Wednesday and Thursdays each week of term 3.
Thank you to all the art enthusiasts who have contributed and participated in Room 13 with Howard and Michael. Your creativity and passion will be showcased at the ‘School Days’ exhibition at Hurstville Museum and Gallery. All families and students are welcome to attend the official opening on Friday 19th of July at 6pm, and the exhibition will be open to the public from the 20th of July until 6th of October.
The HSC trials are just around the corner. The first lot of exams will commence Monday week 3 of term 3 and will conclude Friday week 4. We wish our Year 12s all the best and encourage them to be prepared for the day of their exams.
Woniora Road School will be holding its annual Bunnings BBQ fundraiser at Kingsgrove Bunnings on the 17th of August . This event is a great opportunity for all students, their families and staff to come together within our local community to raise funds for our school camp.
Finally, I would like to wish all our families a happy and restful break. We look forward to seeing you when school resumes on the 23rd of July.
