Year 7 Retreat
On the 1st November the last of the year level retreats for 2019 was held at the Don Bosco Retreat Centre in Lysterfield. The focus of the Year 7 Retreat was “Silence, Stillness and Spirituality of the Heart”. In the stillness and silence of mind and body the students were able to participate in a number of workshops for personal prayer, reflection, meditation and gratitude for what we have in our lives. The workshops included Christian meditation, a mindfulness activity, an activity on Gratitude and an environmental pilgrimage. I’d like to thank the students for the positive and responsive way in which they participated on the day, and the RE teachers for their support in the planning and implementation of this experience for our students.
Year 9 Community Service
Over the past week, our Year 9 students have undertaken a Community Service project, which comprised an OH&S workshop, three days of community service, and a program to develop their leadership skills.
Involvement in this program has allowed the students to contribute meaningful action towards the needs of the community through their volunteer work. The girls participated in a variety of placements, which included op shops, primary schools, domestic violence and other community organisations; along with justice activities run at school.
After taking their lanterns into the community, the students reflected on the work they had undertaken. Although some students were hesitant to step out of the comfort zones at the commencement of the program, they all felt positive about the contributions they had made, and understand the value of helping others, not judging people by their appearance, and treating others with kindness, dignity and respect.
