GRIP Leadership Conference

Written by Teia, Year 6 Cowie Crocodiles House Captain:

The Year 4 and 6 House Captains went to Melbourne Convention Centre on Wednesday 13 March. Approximately 126 other schools went as well as around 2500 students. We had the chance to talk to other leaders from other schools.

All the students at the Melbourne Convention Centre were given a conference booklet that we had to use to take notes. There were four subheadings in the booklet, the first one was “Developing my own character”. The second one was “Making a contribution with my team”. The third one was “Teams influencing the cultures at our school”. The fourth one was “Our school can make a difference to a cause in society”.

We learnt what you have to do to be a good leader and ideas to be a good leader. There was something called C.O.R.E which stands for Confidence with humility, others focused, reliability and empathy.

On Tuesday 12 March, the College Captains and House Captains attended a Leadership Conference. This conference was for student leaders from hundreds of schools around Victoria. During the course of the day, the student leaders learnt ways of being better leaders and attended several workshops on how to develop their leadership skills.  The workshops that we participated in were: Top tips for House Captains, how to involve more people in School events, how to maximise my contribution to my team, how to create an amazing school culture, and how to choose and advance a cause. We also interacted with leaders from other schools, shared ideas and also obtained new ideas. This was a fantastic opportunity for the leaders of Tarneit P-9 College to gain more knowledge and skills to become the best leaders we can inside and outside of school.
