Pre-School Storytime

Last week was our last Pre-school Storytime for the term.  We hope to start up again in week 2 of next term and hope more families will join us.

Last week our theme was bears and we read books about Bears and sang and danced to songs like “Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, Turn Around” and “rock-a-bye your bear”.  Then we went on our very own “bear hunt”.

We swished through the long grass....        Splashed through the river...    and squelched through the mud

We had a snowstorm swirl over us and went through the forest and into a cave where we came face-to-face with a very big teddy bear which made us all run back home.  Once we had caught our breath again we enjoyed decorating and eating teddy bear biscuits.

New Library Computer System - Oliver v.5

Early next term we will be changing to a new Library Management System.  It will take a while to get all the new functions working but in time this new catalogue will enable students and parents to be able to look up books on your computers at home and for students to place their own reservations.  Parents will be able to check which books your child currently has on loan and whether anything is overdue.  Students will be able to add their own book reviews on books they have read and read reviews by other students.  The new system will also integrate well with e-books so we will hopefully be subscribing to a new e-book collection soon and enable our students to explore those books at home too.

Year 6 Library Assistants Mid Year Thank You Party

Our team of Year 6 Library Assistants do a great job helping to shelve the returned Library books each day.  They also assist with labelling our guided reading sets and new library books, set up displays and design and judge our Library promotions/competitions.

Last Thursday we held a special lunchtime party as a reward for all their hard work.  Every assistant who had attended at least 15 times this year was able to bring a friend and enjoy some hot and cold food and soft drink.  Despite a hiccup with the Wii, the kids enjoyed dancing and chatting, and even put on some pretty good entertainment for me!

Library Volunteers Morning Tea - A Thank You for our Adults Volunteers

This year we have built up to a nice small team of regular community volunteers who assist in our library.  We have 1 parent who takes books home to contact, 2 parents who recently starting taking turns to help in the library and 5 members of our local community who come for between 2 hours to an entire day each week to help in our Library.  Their assistance is greatly appreciated, and has enabled me the time to increase the level of service available to our students, so next Thursday I am hosting our mid-year Morning Tea Thank You for these VIP’s (Very Important People).

If you are interested in assisting in our library there is always room for more volunteers so please pop into the Library to have a chat to me about the options or send me a email to Kelly.Loretta.K@edumail.edu.au

Happy Reading!
