Cybersafety Parent Information Session

Last week as part of our Cyber Safety education program we invited all of our parents to a free Cyber Safety information session with ‘ThinkUKnow’ Australia. THINKUKNOW works in partnership with the Australian Federal Police, Victoria Police & Microsoft Australia.

We were fortunate enough to have Federal Agent Gerry Del Bono present an evidence-based Cyber Safety program to our parents. It provides information on the technologies young people use, the challenges they may face, and importantly, how they can be overcome.

The presentation covered what young people SAYSEE and DO online, addressing topic such as such as social media reputation management, cyberbullying, ‘sexting’, online grooming, online gaming, inappropriate content, privacy management, identity theft, how to protect your devices, and how to report matters when things go wrong.

Thanks to those families who chose to take part in this free information session, that had impressive feedback from the parents who attended, and it contributed to understanding how to protect your children.

Cybersafety Student Information Session

Our years 3, 4, 5 and 6's also attended a school incursion from the same company, ‘ThinkUknow’. The program for students is designed to educate and promote Cyber Safety.

Students learnt about how the internet is used, why unidentifiable usernames and passwords are essential to maintaining privacy and security and why adult supervision and permission is important before signing up to apps and websites. There were conversations around online gaming, cyberbullying, respectful language, talking to people online, sharing images or videos and what information can be gathered from these. Along with this, the sessions covered safe searching and what help is available.

Have a look at the Police Officers, Sergeant Jeff and Senior Sergeant Leigh talking to our students.
