Juliana Neild (Year 12 2020) has also been selected for this year's Top Arts exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), which runs from Friday, 13 March until Friday, 12 June.   Juliana's stunning piece, "Eye Make Change", was acquired by PCW as the final acquisition piece for the school art collection.

“The inspiration behind my work was the deceptive concept of change.  I was interested in  disintegration loops, which are loops of sound which are slowly decomposed and broken down until nothing but silence can be heard.  I experimented with this idea and also with the reverse, beginning with nothing and layering more and more items. I was fascinated by the idea that nothing could be done without creating  a certain change, and that the prospect of doing ‘nothing’ cannot exist. Therefore everything around us must constantly be changing, by undergoing the processes of disintegration or layering in some manner.

I wanted to demonstrate this by creating a series of prints, changed by scraping a piece of sandpaper across the printing plate randomly after each print, creating more and more lines each time. Hereby, each time the print results were slowly changed and evolved to become darker and darker.

I arranged these prints to depict a set of eyes,  to reflect on our perception of change and the way in which we often see it in a broadened sense.”
