Student Wellbeing Report

Welcome to a Prosperous 2020

2020 is going to be a year of excellent opportunities for our students.  This involves giving everything to their studies, enjoying time with friends and the community, and getting involved in all of the excellent opportunities the College has provided our students for almost 150 years.  We owe it to all those who love the College to have an excellent year.

Commitment to Wellbeing

At the Welcome Assembly last week, we asked students to make four commitments to their wellbeing in 2020:

  1. Try something new.  Pick up an instrument, try a new study schedule, get involved in Music Festival Variety, go to the library, speak to someone new, try out for a sport.
  2. Make a commitment to try their best.  Success comes from work, and work takes practice.  We encouraged the students to take this opportunity to set themselves up for their future.
  3. Speak to someone and reach out for help if things get bumpy, as the PCW school community is always here to support you.
  4. Make a commitment to be kind, caring and welcoming to others.  We know that we need to be welcoming, and as a small community this year, we are going to need this quality more than ever so that everyone feels included.

Preventative Wellbeing

With a strong focus on preventative wellbeing, the Positive Education program at PCW aims to equip students with specific skills to help strengthen their relationships, build personal resilience, promote mindfulness and encourage good mental and physical health.  In 2020, classes will be held in year levels, instead of houses, allowing for tailored lessons that address the diverse wellbeing needs across different year levels.  House spirit and connectedness will also be promoted through the House Cup activities within the curriculum.

Our PCW students are given opportunities to flourish, grow and experience success in many different ways.  This year’s school camps and overseas trips are opportunities for our girls to build relationships and relish in new experiences.  Whole school events such as Music Festival, Swimming and Athletics Carnivals are also amazing opportunities for students to build house spirit and connect with students in different years within their houses.

We love that our girls have varied interests and talents and that they are proud to showcase their individuality, whilst celebrating diversity within our beautiful school community.   Our students’ welfare is always of paramount importance to us and we look forward to supporting all of our students throughout 2020.
