Triathlon

The weather didn’t deter an enthusiastic group of triathlon competitors who took part in the Schools Triathlon Challenge last week.  37 secondary students from Year 7 and 8 competed on Thursday in cold, windy conditions and then 55 primary students from Year 3 to 6 competed on Friday in even colder and windier conditions.

As always, both events were well supported by many schools, and the students had a great day being active and challenging themselves to do their best. Congratulations to all those students who took part, especially in such difficult conditions.

Primary Touch Football

The Year 5/6 Touch Football roster finished up on Wednesday afternoon.  Mount Carmel had two teams competing in the JSSATIS roster, with most players being new to the game.  Both teams did a tremendous job, learning new skills and working together to improve, finishing their final games against Collegiate with a win.  Thanks to Greg Ross for coaching the Year 6 team.

Secondary Touch Football Finals

The Southern Touch Junior Schools Roster at Wentworth Park is drawing to a close and Mount Carmel is well represented in finals.  On Monday in Year 7 games, the Navy team finished in 2nd position, earning a place in the Grand Final against MacKillop.  Unfortunately MacKillop were too strong taking out the Final 8-1, but the Mount Carmel team played well and were satisfied with their strong season.

7 Gold played Ogilvie in the play off for 3rd. Their Coach, Bob Stubbs said “I was amazed how far the girls came in the seven weeks, most had never seen a game of touch before their first game, and at the end of season they drew in the playoff for 3rd place.  It had little to do with me as coach and everything to do with their character and excellent team spirit.  It was a delight to be associated with them.” 7 White finished the season in 5th after Collegiate forfeited their playoff match.

The Year 8 team had a great time and really showed some improvement as the season progressed, they finished 4th out of 10 teams which is a great achievement.

In the Year 9/10 roster, finals were split into year groups, and Mount Carmel capped off the season with a 6-1 victory over Clarence High School in the play-off for 3rd. The relatively inexperienced team struggled with numbers throughout the competition but, with the help of last minute ‘recruiting’, managed to field a team each week. The team showed great spirit each game, particularly against some very strong sides, and showed great improvement over the season.
