Anaphylaxis, Allergy & Asthma - Urgent Updates
Parents of children with Anaphylaxis/Allergies had letters sent home to them last week regarding the status of your childs Action plans and Medication. If you had updates required for your child, please ensure that these are completed by Friday 29th April and returned to Brodie in the office. It is cruital that we have the most up to date information and medical requirements for your child at all times.
In the coming weeks, families of those students with Asthma will also recieve similar letters regarding any updates to Action Plans or Medication that may be required for you child. Please keep an eye out for these.
A notice to all parents to please notify the school in writing if there are any changes to your child's medical information.

Payments to Office
A reminder to those families opting to pay for the Year 5 Camp by instalments that your second payment is now due. This is also a courtesy reminder for families of the payments that are required for upcoming events. If you have recently spoken to Jan or have made payment please disregard this reminder.

Payments can be made by cash or cheque and sent via your child's classroom cash bag in an envelope clearly labelled with your child's Name, Class and name of payment. If paying in cash please send correct amount as limited change is available.
Alternatively, payments of cash, cheque or EFTPOS can be made in person at the office between the hours of 8:15am and 4:00pm Monday to Friday. Phone payments or manual credit card payments will not be accepted. Limited change is available if making cash payments.

2016 Digital Technoligies Acceptable Use Agreements
2016 Prep - Year 3 Digital Technologies Acceptable Use Agreements will be sent home this week. Some parents/students have already completed this agreement, therefore may not recieve one, if you are unsure please contact Brodie in the office.
This booklet must be read by parents and the acceptable use of ICT equipment and programs at Ormond Primary School explained to their children. Parents are then asked to sign the acceptance page and return the booklet to school by Friday 6th May.
A copy of the Acceptable Use Agreement is attached below for you convenience.
McKinnon Secondary College Year 7 Information Session
Information Evening
Tuesday 3rd May at 7pm in our School Assembly Hall.
McKinnon Secondary School Tours Thursday 5th May and Monday 9th May from 9.15am to 10.15am.
All families who are applying for a Year 7 place will be given a package/folder of Information including the application form "Expression of Interest in a Year 7 Place for 2017".
The due date for the "Expression of Interest", including specific evidence of in zone, Sibling claims, Nearest, is May 27 2016. This must be submitted to the General Office at McKinnon Secondary College. If evidence is incomplete, then the application may not be considered. All evidence requested is significant.
After the formalities in the Assembly Hall, families are invited to Tour the College, particularly the areas used by Year 7. Parents may ring the College on 03 8520 9000 to book in for a morning Tour of the College from 9.15 to 10.15am on the above dates.
All other enquiries should be made directly to McKinnon Secondary College.
Family Life Victoria
Family Life Victoria will conduct a Sexuality Education Program on Thursday 28th April in the Library.
These programs support parents to help their children learn about aspects of human sexuality.
These entertaining and valuable sessions are not to be missed and are for both parents/carers as well as students.

Education Sub Committee - Family Maths Evening
The Ormond Primary community is warmly invited to attend an evening showcase of Mathematics on Tuesday 10th May 6:30pm to 7:20pm.
All classrooms will be set up with mathematics games, problems, hands-on activities and learning tasks for families to experience and enjoy. It is also an opportunity for Ormond Primary School to showcase some of the ways in which Mathematics is learnt at our school.
Collect a raffle ticket after visiting every room. See the teacher inside. Raffle draw in hall at evening close. We look forward to seeing you as we would love to see as many families as possible to help make our evening a great success!

Scouts Victoria 'Our School Raffle' 2016
It is almost that time of year for the Scout's Victoria annual raffle. Each Ormond Primary School family recieves a book of raffle tickets to sell. If you do not wish to recieve a raffle book, please contact Brodie in the office.
The Scouts Victoria 'Our School Raffle' is one of the schools biggest fundrasiers of the year with $1.50 of each $2.00 ticket sold goes directly to Ormond Primary School. Each year we have increased the amount we have raised more and more with last year raising nearly $2,500. Lets aim to crack the $3,000 mark this year!

Worlds Greatest Shave
Every day, about 34 Australians will be given the devestating news that they have Leukaemia, Lymphoma or Myeloma and they will turn to the Leukaemia Foundation for help.
Several brave students will be participating in the World's Greatest Shave again this year and you too can help raise money to donate.

Premier's Reading Challenge
The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and Ormond Primary School is excited to be participating.
The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to 16 years in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by the closing date of the challenge.
Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.
If you would like your child to participate, please return the attached privacy and consent form.
All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and can choose to have their name included on the online Honour Roll.

Year 5/6 Winter Lightning Premiership
Winter Lightning Premiership is on this Friday 29th April. Soccer is at Bailey Reserve, Volleyball is at Tucker Road P.S., Hockey is at Hughesdale P.S., Netball is at McKinnon P.S., T-Ball is at McKinnon Reserve and Basketball is being played at Hughesdale P.S. Parental support is most welcome.

Yr 2 Shrine of Rememberance
On Tuesday 26th April the Year 2 students enjoyed a very informative guided tour of the Shrine. Below are a few comments they had to share.
"There was a fourteen year old soldier who went to battle he helped to steer the boat to Gallipoli." - Gus

Visual Arts Update

As the students are busy working in the art room, Debbie Qadri has been busy working outside the art room, putting up some of the fabulous pieces the students have made. The mushrooms have sprouted, Tweedle Dee has arrived and the Queen of Hearts is looking suitably annoyed! Keep your eyes peeled for more additions over the coming weeks.

Year 1 Update
We are well and truly back into Term 2 and it is amazing to see the progression that the Year 1 have made already.
At the end of last term the Prep – Year 2 students had grandparents and special friend’s day. The students were so excited to involve their visiting grandparents and friends in their learning. All grades invited visitors into their classrooms and had the opportunity to share their work and learn something about the past from those attending. The morning was followed by a morning tea in the hall and short concert that the students had been working very hard towards. Many thanks to the parents that volunteered their time to help set up the hall for the morning and to all for the generous morning tea provided.
As a celebration of our Back in Time unit. The Year 1 students had an olden day dress up day. They all looked superb in their little outfits and played the part well, being a student living in the past. They took part in old fashioned learning including rote spelling, arithmetic, cursive handwriting and learning about school rules of the past. Later in the day we had old school games and activities including skipping, hoop racing and tunnel ball. Again thanks to parents for some delicious morning tea snacks, we thoroughly enjoyed a feast of warm scones, rock cakes, ANZAC biscuits and even fresh damper with golden syrup butter.

Out of School Hours Care
Casual After School Care Places
We have a daily waiting list for After School Care places for Monday - Thursday. If your require a casual one off place please note your child’s name on the waiting list on the day you require care in the Program Diary. Please contact the program the night before or the morning of the day the care is required to confirm your child’s place.
Jumper Rule
During the colder weather in Terms 2 and 3, we require children to wear a jumper outside. Children will be allowed to remove their jumper/jacket, if they are participating in sport or physical activity . Parents can exclude their children from this requirement by providing a note stating their child is not required to wear a jumper outside during cold weather.

Mother's Day Stall
The Mother's Day stall will be held on Thursday 5th May. in the hall. Students will be bought down a class at a time and have the opportunity to buy their mother or special carer a gift.
There is a beautiful range of treats to buy and every item is priced at $5. If there are any remaining items, the stall will be open after school on Friday 6th May.
Trivia Night

2016 Entertainment Book
Ormond Primary School is pleased to offer the 2016|17 Entertainment Book to friends and family. The book is filled with offers including restaurants, hotel accommodation and activities which is especially good with the school holidays coming up. Books are $65 with 20% from every book sold going towards Ormond Primary School’s fundraising efforts.
