Shadow

Two members of our school executive, Scott Breen and David Partridge has completed the Shadow a Student program. The program requires participants to be a student for the day, dress in school uniform, attend the classes of the student they shadow and spend their breaks in the playground. This learning is a valuable experience to see school through the eyes of a students. Here is a sample of other professional learning events that are taking place around the school: • First aid course • Beginning teacher support and planning days • Supporting refugee students • STEM Academy • CAPA faculty learning Feedback For Learning “Teachers are constantly giving their students feedback. The problem is that students are often telling us that they aren’t receiving feedback, and if they aren’t receiving feedback, they cannot use it or act on it. So how can we improve both the feedback that we give and the capacity of our learners to receive and act upon feedback?” Dr Cam Brooks, UQ. Head Teacher HSIE/Languages, Tammy Cameron, was selected to participate in the 2019 Leadership Development Initiative to learn from experts in the field about effective feedback. In order to share her learning with ASC staff, she has developed series of workshops that focus on the power of effective feedback. Teachers explore how feedback impacts upon learning and teaching through presentations, case studies, activities and discussion. Strategies will be applied to classrooms and results shared with colleagues to contribute to a culture of collaboration that fosters positive learning and engagement at ASC. The first session was held on Tuesday and will take place each fortnight in Terms 3 and 4
