Help The Homeless!!

Tayla Stanaway-Barker

15 March 2020

Hello, My name is Tayla. My Community Services VET class and I are holding a homeless stall in Havelock Street, Ballarat on May the 12th during the hours 2 to 5pm. We are doing this because Wendouree/Ballarat ranks as the third highest in numbers of homeless people across Victoria and we want to give back, to not just the homeless but people in need. I will be holding a donation day on the 26th of March  and collecting donations on Thursday morning Period 1. It would be lovely if everyone could donate, whether via a cash donation of any amount or a physical donation such as:

  • Shampoo, conditioner and body wash
  • New hair brushes and hair ties
  • Old clothes – jumpers, pants, shirts and jackets or anything clean
  • New toothbrushes and toothpaste
  • New socks
  • Gift cards to food services or clothing stores
  • Baby wipes or disinfectant wipes
  • Menstruation products – Pads, tampons or menstrual cups
  • Hand sanitisers or masks because of the corona virus
  • Non-perishable food

I will not be accepting the following:

  • Razors
  • Any form of sharp objects
  • High allergy prone products such as nuts

If you do decide to donate money, it will be going toward buying the items listed above and what is left over will be donated to charity. Students should bring their donations to school but parents feel free to drop off any items or money donations at the Office at any point during the day.

I strongly encourage everyone to donate at least one item because you will be helping the local people of Ballarat/Wendouree as well as feeling good about yourself for helping people in need. I will be publishing photos of the stall so you can see the results of your contributions. Thank you!!!
