Junior School News
What a fabulous start to the year our Junior students have had. It is so wonderful seeing their independence and enthusiasm as they begin each day. Our Prep students have blown us away with how well they have settled into the routines of school and as of March they begin full weeks at school.
Numeracy
The Junior students have been focusing on number, patterns and counting in Numeracy. We have been working hard to practise our skills, working both independently and in groups and students are loving the hands on materials and games that they've been introduced to.
Literacy
In Literacy the P/1 students have been unlocking sounds and have been learning to tune their ears into the different sounds in words. We have just begun building words using these sounds, which is very exciting!
In 1/2 classes the students have been unlocking more complex sounds and have been practising fluency in their reading of their sounds.
Middle School News
Middle School Students have had a fantastic start to the year! In 3/4H, 3/4B & 2/3A, all students have been able to set up the classroom expectations and follow these each day. It has been fantastic to see many students bringing their diaries in each morning with the home reading written in! Well done everybody.
Literacy:
In English we have been working on our new approaches to handwriting and reading. It has been great to see students developing greater independence and organisational skills with their reading diaries and working on their fluency too. Well done parents too (both lovely and terrible singing is more than welcome in the middle years team!).
Numeracy:
In Maths our focus has moved on to addition. Students have begun to look at different tools to help when adding larger numbers together starting with the Jump strategy. We will also cover a variety of other strategies including split and vertical addition. This all builds on really nicely with what we have covered in place value, and students are enjoying their success in working with larger numbers.
Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program:
The three middle years classes have begun the years SAKG program and it is already becoming a favorite on the timetable. We are currently looking for any parent volunteers for the program that runs on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.
Senior School News
A brilliant start to the year in 5/6L, 5/6P and 4/5M
Literacy:
In the last fortnight the Senior Team have continued developing our understanding of our reading habits through regular use of readers/writers notebooks. Students have worked hard at developing reading logs that reflect their interests and have put together a book review on a text they would recommend to others. It has been incredibly pleasing to see all three classes working hard at completing their reading diaries each night with a huge number of students already reaching the 25 night milestone. Well done to all you eager readers!
Numeracy:
In Numeracy we have reviewed our work on number and place value with students being assessed on the unit this week. We have already seen some great growth and look forward to continuing this momentum in our new unit looking at addition.
We have loved the creativity and commitment from all students with our new homework program and encourage everyone to keep up the great multiplication practise and keep working on the range of other activities.
A quick reminder for Grade 5/6 students to ensure camp forms are returned ASAP.
