Welcome back to 2020!

Welcome back!

Welcome back to LNPS and welcome to all the new families who have started here in 2020. We hope you spent some quality time over the Christmas period with your family and had lots of memorable experiences. It certainly was an eventful and at times tragic summer. We hope you and your families were safe during the ferocious fires. Everyone has had different experiences and some of you, your family or friends may have been directly affected. You are in our thoughts. Support is available for schools, students and families.

Our staff have resources to help guide them through supporting students in the classroom and in the school yard. There are also resources available to parents if they need some guidance on supporting their children.

For more information search for ‘after a bushfire’ on education.sa.gov.au.

Routines

Students should not be arriving at school prior to 8:30am when Yard Duty begins.  For the safety of all students, we ask that parents make arrangements so that children are not left unsupervised in the school yard.

The school provides a before school care service to ensure that all students are supervised appropriately before 8:30am. Please contact the OHSC on 84435308 to arrange enrolment.

If there is an occasion when students arrive close to, but before 8:30am, it is expected that they wait on the seats within the quadrangle along the Fisher or office buildings.

Torrens classroom doors will be opened at 8:40am allowing students to sign in on their teacher's computers and organise themselves for the day. If students arrive after 8:50am, they will be marked as late. If students arrive late, they need to sign in at the front office before coming to class. As mornings are busy times for staff, families are politely asked to make an appointment through emails for more in-depth discussions. But please feel free to drop in and say a quick hello!

Developing independence is a major focus for students in Torrens.

Being independent helps a child’s confidence, resilience, getting along skills, organisation and belief in themselves that they can take on challenges and be successful. Staff spoke to the students about what they can do to continue to develop their own independence. Suggestions are to pack, carry and unpack their own school bags, help make their recess and lunch, be responsible for charging their Chromebooks overnight, organise their uniform and school items each evening before they go to bed and be confident to talk to the Torrens teachers directly if they have any questions, concerns or problems that we can help them with. We would like your support with this and look forward to seeing them thrive and become confident and independent.

Communication

All students will have a diary to assist them with organisation, record homework and allow for communication between home and school. Parents can also communicate via email. All absences must be explained. Diaries need to be sighted by you regularly but there is no need to sign them. We will provide time each week for the students to fill-in their diaries with important events, messages and record their plans.

Year 3/4 Camp

Torrens Teachers are in the process of planning a camp for Year 3/4 this year. The camp will be over three days with a focus of building independence, confidence, resilience, getting along skills, organisation and belief in themselves that they can take on challenges and be successful. More information to come.
