Acknowledgment of Country

When it comes to respecting and honouring the traditional owners of the land on which we play, walk and live, there's something special about young children understanding the meaning behind an Acknowledgment of Country. At St Edward's School our AEA's provide students of both campuses to have the opportunity to lead our assemblies with the Acknowledgment of Country.

This week our Acknowledgment of Country was lead by Nevaeh Munro at the Infants Campus and Hunter Saddler at the Primary Campus.

Deadly Learner Awards

Congratulations to Dylan Cooper, Mia O'Connor and Saxon Rankmore on receiving a Deadly Learners Award. We are super proud of you all!

Keep an eye out in next week's newsletter for our Deadly Learner recipients at the Infants Campus.

Morning Tea with our Elders

This year, the Naidoc Week theme is ‘For Our Elders’. Our AEA’s have been yarning with our students and teaching them who our Elders are and the importance they have in our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. This week some of our Year 3 & 6 students had the opportunity to sit down and have a yarn and follow on with sharing a morning tea with our Elder, Aunty Pearl Slater who was accompanied by her close friend Tammie Woodland. We also invited Uncle Mark Atkins to visit our school to be apart of this experience as our students chose some Aboriginal leaders of our community who have passed on Aboriginal knowledge and whom our students respect. We would also like to send a big shout out to Uncle Mark Atkins who ended our morning with a special Didgeridoo performance for the whole Primary Campus. We are excited for the next few weeks to create something very special to gift to our special visitors at our Naidoc Assembly.

Our next special Elders gathering will be with 2 very special leaders in our school community, Mrs Cate Taylor and Mrs Amanda Gwalter.

Yaluu.

We will publish our Word of the Week on Facebook and in the newsletter. Please support your child to use this word at home.      Week 6 - MISHMASH

St Edward's OPEN DAY (Infants Campus only) - this Sunday 5th March, 1.00-3.00pm

Encourage them to come and visit our wonderful school and discover for themselves the many benefits of a Catholic Education at St Edward's Primary School.

St Ed's P & F Easter Raffle

Our wonderful P & F committee is currently organising our annual Easter Raffle.  Donations of easter eggs, baskets, cellophane and ribbon from families would be most welcomed and can be left at either school office.  Raffle books will be sent home after the 17th March.

Attendance

Regular attendance at school is essential if students are to maximise their potential. Schools, in partnership with parents, are responsible for promoting the regular attendance of students. While parents are legally responsible for the regular attendance of their children, school staff, as a part of their duty of care, monitor part or whole day absences.

Classes commence at 8:45am, late arrival makes it more difficult for a child to settle in class. Leaving class early results in your child missing out on important information to help them prepare for the next day. Each day or part day missed makes the support of your child more challenging as staff attempt to ensure they are learning at an appropriate rate. The below infographics demonstrate the importance of consistent attendance at school. Every day does count and is essential to the academic success of your child. Thank you for helping to maximise your child’s potential by ensuring their attendance at school is a priority.

COVID Safe Measures

This year, schools will continue to follow guidance issued by NSW Health to support the safety and wellbeing of our school communities.

Staff and students with COVID-19 symptoms

If a student or staff member is unwell and has any symptoms they should always test for COVID-19 and not attend school until they are symptom free.

Positive COVID-19 cases

If a student or staff member receives a positive result on with a RAT or PCR test they should:

  1. Record the positive result through the Services NSW website or app
  2. Notify the school of the positive results as soon as possible

Change of Details

We ask parents to please use the Compass portal to change phone numbers or email addresses. For changes to residential address or student medical details, please contact either school office via phone or email, thank you.

Medical Action Plans

Medical Action Plans have been sent home to all families who have children with Asthma, Seizures, Diabetes and Anaphylaxis.  Parents are asked to update these forms annually, including a signature from your family doctor.  Please return these signed Action Plans to school as soon as possible, thank you.

Parents of students who have been diagnosed with any of the above medical conditions since enrolling are asked to advise either school office ASAP so a Medical Action Plan can be processed and sent home.
