Library

Welcome to the latest instalment of The Adventures of the Greatest Library in the Universe. Also known as CHS Library and hosted by your ever friendly librarian, Dianna.

Our two Library Assistants, Justice and Althea, have begun their year long tenure with exuberance and skill. They have already become indispensable to the library and it can only get even better from here.

Each year brings our school a new group of students beginning their journey through secondary school. I refer to the year 7 cohort who bring with them their wondrous imaginations and bug eyes at the CHS library collection. These students are all inducted into the ways and wonders of the library and I must admit that this year’s cohort is an amazing group of students. It makes me extremely proud to say that they are absolute reading monsters. Their respect for our library is an absolute pleasure to behold. I can only hope that this continues with each year that passes.

As far as events go, we have already begun this year with the ever growing monster it is quickly becoming, Blind Date With a Book. With the library lit only by candlelight alongside flowers and hearts to melt any book cynic’s heart, the stampede of students searching for their one true book love was overwhelming. While some books only lasted during the one blind date (sometimes opposites just don’t attract), others were lovingly taken home to read and fall in love with a whole new set of characters. Let’s see now where next year’s one will take us.

The inaugural 2023 Library Trivia Master is about to begin for the year and the first one is going to be a very tough one to solve. Who will be able to achieve the almost impossible and attempt to take the crown from the three time champion and become the Library Trivia Master of 2023? Can it be done? Who knows? We can only wait and see….

We have loads more fun events on the horizon including Book Character Dress Up Day for book week in August and Book Bingo which will be beginning in May. Keep a lookout for more information on this.

Lastly, I would like to thank the families of Coburg High students who have been so incredibly generous with their Library fund donations over the past twelve months. Without this kindness there would be no library. We are constantly promoting and creating new and wondrous ways for students to dive into the culture of reading and stories and there are so many passionate readers here at CHS who will directly benefit from the generosity displayed by the community.

For those families who would like to get involved in donating new and used books to the library please email Dianna at library@coburg.vic.edu.au

Again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

In the meantime, keep reading, exploring and inspiring.
