Outside the Classroom

Melbourne Museum Excursion

As part of their studies in Year 7 Humanities, students travelled by tram along Nicholson Street to the Melbourne Museum, where they explored the Forest Gallery and Melbourne Story Exhibitions as a precursor to the Liveability unit, before undertaking a self-guided trail through the First People’s Exhibition, drawing links to their Indigenous Australia unit currently being studied at school. It was fantastic to see students making meaningful connections between the exhibits and what they are doing in the classroom.

Freya: "I really liked the possum skin cloaks and I think it was really interesting how they described the stories. I think it was really interesting having your biography written out on a piece of clothing."

Ashley: "A highlight from the day was going into the Forest Walk, that was really fun! Seeing all the lizards as well, that was really cool."

Hilary: "It was really interesting, I liked the gemstones a lot!"

Stand Out

So far in Stand Out this year a group of us attended midsumma pride march and we are planning a workshop for the year 7’s to try and help educate them on identity and stereotypes. We also recently got a donation we are very grateful for towards stand out and are planning to do as much good as we can with that donation. We are also in the process of planning more activities for 2023 and planning festivities for IDAHOBIT and Wear It Purple Day which will both be later this year.

Blue Edge

Some of our Year 8s are participating in the Blue Edge Program with Victoria Police for the next 8 weeks. We look forward to hearing more about it as the program goes!

Student Achievement

Congratulations to Quinn R of Year 10 who has been invited by AusCycling to represent Victoria as part of the Women's Junior Under 17s team at the National Track Cycling Championships in Brisbane this April.

Last weekend, representing Brunswick Cycling Club, Quinn won a gold medal titles and two silver medals at the Victorian State Track Cycling Championships, competing with cyclists from across the state. In total, Quinn now holds four Victorian State Titles in Track Cycling.

Congratulations to Buckley P in 7D who will be travelling interstate to compete in the Australian Youth Beach Volleyball Championships. Volleyball has been a big part of Buckley’s family’s history for generations and he is now developing his own path within the sport. This is an amazing opportunity where he will be coach by Tasmin Hinchley, a volleyball Olympian. All of Coburg wishes him all the best.
