Year 12 Results 2023

Congratulations to our Dux, Ferina Ulku and Dux Proximus, Marina Di Pietro for their outstanding results. We also congratulate the whole 2022 VCE Cohort on their strong ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank) results.

The VCE is primarily for those students focused on tertiary entry and the ATAR is the ranking used for this purpose. We are very pleased with the ATARs that our 2022 Year 12 students achieved. Almost 10% of our students gained an ATAR over 90 and 23% were above 80, which is outstanding. Over 38% of our students achieved a ranking over 70. The ATARs achieved certainly translated into pathways success, with our students gaining places in an amazing range of their chosen tertiary courses. In fact, in first round offers, over 93% of our students were offered their first, second or third preference through VTAC. Consequent round offers saw many more students being offered their first preferences. We should all be incredibly proud of this outcome.

Ferina and our other high achievers from VCE and VCAL were recognised at the Marian High Achievers Assembly, this week. Ferina provided some insightful advice for our current students. She is a fine example of a “Marian Learner”. She has always made the most of the learning opportunities available, set clear goals and then implemented strategies to achieve those. In very much the same way, Charli-Rose Coote, our 2022 VCAL Excellence Award recipient, also spoke about the value of her chosen pathway and her efforts to achieve success.

It was wonderful to hear about the success of all these inspirational young women and the diverse range of tertiary courses they are pursuing at many different universities in 2023.

We also congratulate our 2022 Year 11 students who successfully undertook a Unit 3 and 4 Study, with a number of these students, now in Year 12, being named dux of their 2022 Unit 3 and 4 study. These students, along with their peers, have an excellent foundation to build upon in Year 12 in 2023.

Academic Awards Years 7 - 10

The skills and capabilities that enable Year 12 success are developed over the years at Marian from Year 7. Students who develop the dispositions of the Marian Learner show the greatest growth from year to year and ultimately achieve their goals in Year 12.

The Marian Academic Excellence Awards, for students from Years 7 to 11 in 2022, were recognised at the High Achievers Assembly too. Certificates will be presented by Year Level Leaders at forthcoming Year Level Assemblies. These awards acknowledge all-round academic achievement. Our Marian Learner Awards reward those who have demonstrated exemplary  learning behaviours, as displayed on our Marian Learner Poster. Congratulations to all of these students for their achievements and for developing the skills to maximise their progress.

A list of all the award recipients can be viewed on the next page.

Parent Engagement in Learning

Parental engagement means being actively involved in your child’s learning. At Marian College, we are always looking to implement strategies to increase parent engagement as we know that this has a significant positive impact on student growth and achievement.

It has been great to see many families at our Online Parent Information and Meet-the-Teacher Evenings. The recordings of each of the year level presentations will be available on the SEQTA Engage and Learn Welcome Pages. We are also looking forward to working with families at our forthcoming series of SEQTA Engage Parent Workshops. Further information will be sent this week.

We would like to highlight the value of the parent portal, SEQTA Engage, as a tool facilitating greater levels of engagement. SEQTA Engage provides access to coursework, student goals, assessment results and feedback, enabling parents to be more informed. This should assist you to talk constructively with your daughter about her learning and progress. We suggest that parents discuss learning goals and that you have high yet achievable expectations. Also, discuss assessment tasks and the teacher feedback provided over the semester. Most importantly, talk about your daughter’s reflection and her feedback in relation to her achievement and progress. Can your daughter then explain her next learning steps or strategies that she will implement to improve in the future?

These are examples of ways that parents can engage in their daughter’s education. Parents should work together with teachers and the school to ensure we achieve our target of developing assessment capability and at least a year’s progress for every year at school for all of our students.

Thank you for your support. We are looking forward to an exciting and successful year of learning ahead!
