The Fastest Class Challenge

Currently the whole school is competing to see which class is the fastest by running/walking as many laps as possible in five minutes. These five minute runs/walks will take place during the school day. The competition will take place for two weeks. The winning class will be presented with ‘The Fastest Class’ trophy.

 

Team Vic State Team Trials

Registrations are now open for any child (12 years and under) who would like to try out for the Victorian State Teams. The School Sport Victoria (SSV) Team Vic representative program provides a development platform for Victorian students to challenge themselves against Australia’s best school aged athletes across numerous sports at the annual School Sport Australia (SSA) Championships. SSV coordinate the selection process for Team Vic teams in partnership with relevant state sporting organisations.

Please read the Team Vic Information Sheet before registering. This document contains important information on the SSV Team Vic Program, in relation to eligibility, registration, multiclass, selection, participation costs and financial assistance.

Please see the new Team Vic Principal Endorsement Sheet process for the following teams in 2023:

  • Australian Football 12 Years & Under Boys (Closes on Wednesday 1st March, 2023)
  • Basketball 12 Years & Under Girls/Boys (Closes on Wednesday 1st March, 2023)
  • Football (Soccer) 12 Years & Under Boys (Closes on Wednesday 1st March, 2023)
  • Netball 12 Years & Under Girls (Closes on Wednesday 1st March, 2023)

Children are reminded that the skills required for these teams must be exceptional.  It is not a ‘Come and Try’ system. Children are required to check with the school principal or sports teacher for endorsement to go to the trials.

Colac Primary Lawn Bowls Tournament

Congratulations to the following children who won the Colac Primary Schools Lawn Bowls Championships - Reuben Duncan, Livi Harris, Mickey Mathoat, Jesse McCarthy, Astin McCrimmon, Fred Melville, Stella Foley, Fletcher Tomkins, Archie Allan, Charli Doyle, Buddy Gange, Louis Hickey, Leon Whitehouse, Stathi Papafotis, Harper Van Doorn, Zaiden Finn, Finley Geary, Rose Paul, Natalie Farquharson, Jesse Shortis, Silas Walsh, Raymond Wang, Bodhi Baker, Brady Hickey, Max Mitchell and Jemma Howat. These children will now travel to Ararat to play in the Greater Western Regional Bowls Tournament on Wednesday 5th April. A big thank you to Jane Donovan and her team of helpers at the bowling club for their assistance on the day. Also thank you to the parents/grandparents who supported the day.

Sacred Heart Swimming Sports Years 4-6 

Congratulations to Mercy for winning the Sacred Heart Swimming sports last Thursday at Blue Water Fitness Centre. It was great to see all the children participating in this event. A big thank you to the parents and teachers etc who helped on the day. 

 

Football Clinics (change of date)

On Monday 6th March, children in Years 1 and 2 will participate in a football clinic organised by AFL Barwon. Children will need to wear their sports uniform on this day and may also like to wear a football jumper. Football boots are not required. 

 

Colac Division Tennis Trials

A small number of students from Years 5 and 6 have expressed their interest to play in the Colac Division Tennis Trials on Tuesday 7th March at the Colac Lawn Tennis Courts in Church Street. This event will start at 9:15am and finish at approximately 2:00pm.

More information will be sent out via PAM.

 

Sacred Heart Athletics Carnival

The Sacred Heart Athletics Carnival will take place on Friday 10th March at Colac Central Reserve. All children from Years 3-6 have the opportunity to participate in this event. It will include many of the track and field activities including High Jump, Shot Put, Discus, 100m, 200m, Relays etc. The sports will start at approximately 9:40am and finish at 1:20pm. Children will walk to the Central Reserve. Children may still have a lunch order on this day. We do need parent helpers to assist with the field events, timing of the running and place getting. If you are available can you please indicate on the PAM permission form.  A reminder to helpers, you must hold a current ‘Working With Children Check’ and the school office has sighted and entered your details.

Sports Stars of the Week

 

Name: Jemma Howat (Yr. 5 JR)

1. Which sport is your favourite to play and why? Tennis because I am good at it and family members on my Mums side play the game.

2. What is your best sporting moment? My best sporting moment was when I hit a really good serve to someone, and the serve was going as fast as a B-Grade players serve!

3. Which strengths do you believe you have that make you a good athlete? My strengths in sport are my speed and my hand-eye co-ordination.

4. Why do you love playing sports? Sport gets me running and is fun to play.

5. Who is your favourite sports person? Ash Barty Why are they your favourite? I love her, even though she has now retired. I am very inspired by her.

6. What is your favourite sporting team? Any Australian tennis player and in AFL I love Richmond.

 

Name: Eva Sharma (Yr. 4 DC)

1. Which sport is your favourite to play and why? Netball, tennis and swimming are my favourite sports because I always improve with practise and I like winning against my sister.

2. What is your best sporting moment? Shooting the winning goal at the end of the game and winning the match for my team.

3. Which strengths do you believe you have that make you a good athlete? I have good sports skills and leadership skills. I am also good at dodging during dodgeball.

4. Why do you love playing sports? It is fun and it is great to play in the fresh air.

5. Who is your favourite sports person? Why are they your favourite? I don’t really have a favourite sports person.

6. What is your favourite sporting team? Geelong Cats

 

 

Name: Stathi Papafotis (Yr. 6 KT)

1. Which sport is your favourite to play and why? AFL Football and cricket.

2. What is your best sporting moment? When I kicked six goals for the Colac Tigers.

3. Which strengths do you believe you have that make you a good athlete? Good sportsmanship.

4. Why do you love playing sports? I love playing sport because it is fun playing different sports. I like meeting new people in the sports and I like the competition.

5. Who is your favourite sports person? Luke Hodge Why are they your favourite? He is my favourite because he came from Colac.

6. What is your favourite sporting team? Western Bulldogs and Melbourne Renegades.
