Catholic Education Support Staff

I am pleased to welcome back Tegan Bell (Psychologist) and Miranda Pearse (Speech Pathologist) to our school community again for 2023. We have access to both of these professionals at the Catholic Education Office through the appropriate referral processes.

Psychologist

(Tegan Bell)

Please find attached a brochure prepared by the Psychologists at the Catholic Education Office about their role. As Tegan works in many other schools over the Ballarat Diocese, she is unable to provide one-on-one therapy to children. Tegan works with our staff at Sacred Heart to observe, assess and set up support for specific children in need.

Speech Pathologist

(Miranda Pearse)

At Sacred Heart Primary School, we recognise the importance of speech, language, and communication skills, especially in the early years of education. These skills are vital for academic, literacy, and social achievement. Some students in our learning community may need extra assistance in these areas. Miranda, our diocesan speech pathologist, works with many schools in the diocese alongside the Catholic Education Ballarat speech pathology team. Where a speech articulation need has been identified parents are encouraged to source support outside of the school. We at Sacred Heart, recognise that Speech Pathology services can be difficult to access immediately. Miranda can work with our staff to tailor speech programs for children by instructing some of our Learning Support Officers to deliver them. However, this support cannot replace the professional service that can be offered by a Speech Pathologist. Our Learning Support Officers have varied roles in supporting our teachers and students, speech support is merely one of them.
