Health Centre News
We hope everyone is enjoying a great start to the new school year!
Eat & Drink!
Can we please remind all students of the importance of bringing their own water bottle to school every day. It is important to keep hydrated during the school day, especially during HOT weather. Dehydration can often lead to headaches and dizziness. This can be avoided by staying hydrated and drinking adequate water throughout the day. Also, a reminder for students to please eat a healthy breakfast before coming to school, to avoid headaches and lethargy at school!
Medical Conditions & Action Plans
At the start of each school year, students who have been diagnosed with Anaphylaxis, Asthma, Severe Allergies, Diabetes, or Epilepsy need to have their relevant Action Plans supplied to the Health Centre, along with any relevant medication.
These plans need to be completed by a Medical Practitioner every 12 months, as per the Department of Education (DET) guidelines. Action Plans can be provided by the Health Centre, or alternatively downloaded in the “Documents” section of Compass.
Also, if a student’s allergy requires treatment with an antihistamine, please ensure this medication is supplied to the Health Centre. We are unable to provide students with any school supplied medication, including antihistamines.
Pre-existing Injuries
Whilst we happily deal with all student’s First Aid and medical requirements, we are unable to address pre-existing injuries; for example, a sore knee after playing footy or netball over the weekend.
If a student does present to the Health Centre with a pre-existing injury, and this injury is making it difficult for them to function at school, a parent/carer will be required to collect the student. We will recommend medical follow up from a general practitioner.
Immunisations Year 7 & 10
Lastly, just a reminder to all Year 7 and 10 students, that consents for the upcoming immunisation sessions need to be completed electronically, as per Knox City Council requirements, as soon as possible.
Links to the immunisation consent forms have been provided on Compass. The consent must be completed and returned via the link, regardless of whether the student is being receiving the vaccination or not.
Please feel free to contact us in the Health Centre should you have any student health concerns, questions, or medical updates.
Take care everyone!
