Learning & Teaching

Maestro

All parents have now been sent an email invitation to your Maestro accounts from Analytics for Schools. We have successfully worked through the technical issues that several parents were experiencing. It's great to see that so many of our college parents are accessing Maestro and all the learning, behavioural and performance data that is available.

All students in Year 7-10 now have access to any of the developmental rubrics that are currently loaded into Maestro. We are working hard to get all year 7-10 developmental rubrics on Maestro in the coming weeks. Pleasingly, our VCE rubrics will also become live on Maestro in coming weeks which means students can move away from using OneNote Rubrics.

We encourage you to log in to Maestro and have a look at the information available to you and your child.

Here is an instructional video which demonstrates how to interpret the Rubrics and the Dashboard information.

For any questions or problems with Maestro, please contact me (email below) or Assistant Principal Carrie Wallis (wac@wantirnacollege.vic.edu.au).

Curriculum Day

We have our first Curriculum Day on Wednesday 1 March.  This is a student free day, and whilst teachers may set homework tasks for students to complete on the day, teachers will not be providing lesson plans.

This Curriculum Day teachers will focus on building their skills and knowledge around quality teaching practices - particularly around Formative Assessment and using Developmental Rubrics in class to support student learning. Curriculum Days are important opportunities for our staff to work together to continually reflect on, and improve, teaching and learning at the college.

Parent Involvement

The Wantirna College Policy and Education Committee (CPEC) is a subcommittee of school council that meet twice a term. The committee shares and discusses new policies to get feedback from a parent perspective. We also share details of teaching and learning initiatives for feedback.  Carrie Wallis chairs the committee alongside other key staff.

If you are interested in being part of the CPEC committee, please contact us.

For meetings and other important Learning and Teaching dates, please refer to the Dates to Remember page in this Newsletter.

Student Assessment Schedule

On Tuesday 28 February, the Student Assessment Schedule will be published to Compass in the School Resources tab. This outlines all the Assessments students can expect across all year levels for 2023 is an excellent guide to help manage time and workload.
