Therapy Themes

O.T, Speech and Physio share their news, tips, and information.

What is a social story?

Social stories present information in an explicit, tangible way, which can improve a person's understanding of a particular situation. They use clear and gentle supportive language, helping know what to do instead of what’s wrong. The language and content is adapted to meet different peoples’ needs.

Social stories can help with sequencing (what comes next) and organisation (thinking and planning). They can help reduce anxiety about what happens next, as well as providing structure.

At Yarrabah, social stories are developed and written by a speech pathologist, sometimes in collaboration with other therapy staff and educators.  They follow a specific structure and sequence and target a specific set goal.

The social stories in the links below will help your child understand what happens when they get the Covid 19 vaccination or if they need a Covid test.  There is also a social story about wearing masks at school and what happens if we get covid or come know someone with covid.
