Student Leadership

Technology Leaders

As Technology Leaders our job is to take care of the school’s technology devices as well as appreciating and supporting the use of all the devices. Respecting property is one of our school expectations. The three of us look after the chrome books and ipads, making sure they are plugged in everyday before we head home from school. All of the classes in the school depend on technology and we need to make sure that the chromebooks are maintained to a good state.

We also run a fun recess club where you can code and play Minecraft on the ipads and do some school work and fun games. We invite as many students as possible to come and have a good time at Code Club every Wednesday!

News from the Chicken Coop

Thanks to the Borloz family for taking such good care of our chickens over the weekend. We hope you enjoyed your fresh eggs.

Thank you to the families who have volunteered to go on the Chicken Duty Roster. We are now looking for volunteers over the school holidays, specifically from 21-28 December and 2 January onwards. You can choose how many days you would like to do, 3 or 4 days in a row would be ideal. Chicken Duty involves letting the chooks out of their coop in the mornings and putting them away in the evenings, checking that they have enough water each day and feeding them when required and. Occasional cleaning out of chicken manure will also be required. Please email Melinda Kerwin mkerwin@sjmitcham.catholic.edu.au if you are interested.

Egg Lotto

This week the Environment Leaders from Year 5/6 made an egg lotto, with all the money raised given to help out the chickens, buying food and other resources.

The winners of last week's Egg Lotto were Isla Laffin 5/6AB, Bartek Lukszo  5/6AB  and Allegra Stutchbury 1/2 CB. They each took home 1 dozen eggs.

The next Egg Lotto draw will be next Monday 15 November at assembly, so get your $1

raffle ticket soon. You can buy tickets in the Mary McKillop space most mornings or ask someone in the 5/6 rooms.

Some things that we are fortunate to learn and do as Environmental Leaders are looking after the worms and other animals. We do this by feeding and caring for them. We also get to look after the chickens. We do this by picking up their waste, feeding them and giving  them healthy, drinkable water. We also get to do the compost. We do this by placing our left over food scraps in a large compost bin. A fun fact about the Environmental Team is that most people think we waste the beautiful chicken waste, but we put the waste into the compost bin then after a few months, we use it in our clean vegie garden. We grow fresh  fruit and vegies in our garden for our community. After the fruit and vegies have grown we sell it to our school community. Did you know that we are  sponsored by Bunnings?

PS: Don't forget when you're eating your fruit and vegies, think about adding it to the chicken waste!!!
