THE SUNROOM 8s & 9s

Zoom Mascots

Over the past weeks, the Sunroom has had a few new and very welcome visitors!

Is it Maths? Is it Art?

Our recent inquiry has been a rich exploration of how nature has influenced both mathematical and artistic thinking, through the lense of the ‘aesthetic’.

We began with Fibonnaci’s sequence and its connection to nature. The children identified examples of the Golden Ratio in nature and their homes, eventually constructing drawings based on how this ratio applies to space and shape, with consideration for the aesthetic nature of the work.

We pursued the geometrical nature of art, (as well as ratio) further, through a study of Mondrian's abstract works.

Federation Square has all the ‘right’ angles!

We studied the geometry of Fed Square’s fascinating facade, in order to continue pursuing the link between maths and the aesthetic nature of human-made design.

So what other triangles exist and how do they impact the aesthetic nature of design?

The Art of Geometry

Learning through doing is at the heart of Preshil’s philosophy and this was the nature of our learning as we continued to explore and discover the connection between mathematical concepts and the aesthetic nature of design.

Literacy - Comics and Zines

These two genres (formats) have provided us with a rich, creative and FUN way to continue developing a broad range of skills and concepts associated with written expression.

‘Making’ - Experiments, Cooking, Craft

After a few weeks of teacher-led ‘How to…’ type Zoom sessions, we have handed the Zoom ‘Host’ rights over to the children to run these sessions. Although cooking is popular (and we’re not complaining), we are looking forward to some crafty sessions as well, in the week ahead.
