Co-curricular - Junior Sport

Junior Sport Update

In previous Especean articles, I mentioned I would keep the Junior School community abreast of developments with Junior School Sport and the possibilities that exist. With the continued reduction of restrictions and the openness it creates, we are engaged in a very fluid and dynamic situation. Currently we are in a position where school sport may go ahead. However, having spoken to many of the sportsmasters from our competing schools, there is very little appetite to put together fixtures at this stage of the term.

Realistically, there are only three possible weekends to play, and one would be taken up by getting the boys ready. Taking into consideration the need to train and the lack of availability of venues, it just isn’t possible to have the Junior School compete in Summer Sport this term.

With the HSC Examinations commencing this week in the College Gym, and the need to keep that area of the school in a bubble, the planned Junior School Sport Presentation Evening will not go ahead this year. Boys will instead receive their awards during school hours. This will occur towards the latter half of this term.

It has been a very mixed-up year and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the boys and their families for their flexibility and support of the Junior School Co-curricular Program. While we haven’t been able to compete fully this year, we have had the opportunity to compete and show our worth, to move onto representative honours, and to experience the three major House Carnivals in the Junior School. Without your support and the enthusiasm of the boys, this year could have felt and looked very different. So once again, thank you to you all for huge effort that was required this year with Sport and the Co-curricular Program at large.
