OLHC’s Day for Daniel 2021

Friday October 29th

Daniel’s parents, Bruce and Denise started the Daniel Morcombe Foundation to give back to the community who had supported them from the day that Daniel went missing. Today, the Daniel Morcombe Foundation is one of the most well known not for profit child safety organisations in Australia. Daniel’s story changed child safety in Australia and the determination and dedication of his parents has inspired the entire nation.

The red t-shirt Daniel was wearing the day he went missing has become a symbol of child safety awareness. Every year, thousands of people dress up in red for an annual National Day of Action for Child Safety, held on the last Friday in October: Day for Daniel.

During Term 4, P-4 classes at OLHC will participate in a unit on child safety: The Daniel Morcombe Child Safety Foundation Curriculum. Year 5/6 completed this unit in Term 3. To support this learning we are asking that your child dresses up in red clothes on Friday 29th October, whether they are onsite or at home. To support this Foundation we will also be asking for a gold coin donation to help continue their education programs for schools. More information about this soon.

Cooking with our MasterChef Denise

The tuckshop kitchen smelt magnificent even behind our masks! Denise was ready to zoom and cook. We had over 35 families join the cooking session of ‘Yummy Cheesy Pizza Scrolls’. I hope many of you were able to enjoy the delicious results of this session. Certainly the staff onsite enjoyed the taste testing. Many thanks to Denise for this special opportunity. I wonder what Denise will cook next time?

Welcome back to onsite learning for Prep, Year 1 & Year 2 next week.

It is with great excitement we welcome back the Preps, Year 1 and Year 2 classes to OLHC next week. There has been lots of waiting time for this to finally happen. There will be some feelings of excitement, anxiety and anticipation for everyone involved. Children, parents and teachers have all waited for so long for this return to learning, having fun and socialising at school.

If you feel in any way your child needs extra support with their transition back to school, no matter what their year level, advise your child’s teacher or me as we have processes in place to support this journey back to school.

I’m so excited!

Best wishes
