What's happening in our classrooms

Grade 4

Grade 4

English

As part of our English program in Term 4, students in Grade 4 are developing the ability to analyse a variety of texts and fables to understand the moral behind various stories. We will analyse a variety of texts to unpack the messages and morals authors' use when writing.

In Reading, students have been working remotely with their teachers to continue learning about locating key information in a text to enhance comprehension. In Writing, students are busy learning about the features of a sequential explanation which explains a process in order. All students will work through the process of writing a sequential explanation with their teacher and develop their knowledge to confidently have a go at writing a sequential explanation independently.

Mathematics

The maths strands that we are focussing on at the beginning of Term 4 are measurement- capacity and mass, 3D objects and multiplication and division.

We are learning to represent the capacity and mass of objects using formal units of measurement such as millilitres and grams. We are also learning to identify and name the properties of 3D objects such as corners, sides, and vertices. We are learning how to use metal computation to compare multiplication and division, and to solve problems.

Inquiry

During Term 4, Grade 4 students will focus on chemical science, where we will be exploring the effects of heat on solids and liquids. The students will participate in several experiments identifying solids, liquids and gases and determining and identifying how changes occur and what causes these changes.
