Learning & Teaching

Learning and Teaching encompasses the following areas: Student Outcomes, Curriculum, Assessment, Reporting, Principles and Pedagogy.

LITERACY - Di Manthos

Teaching and Learning

How heartwarming it was this week to hear children’s voices in the corridors, in classrooms and in the playground and of course having  more staff back on site.

Literacy-As our students start the return to school we will be conducting different literacy and numeracy assessments. Some of these are requirements from Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic schools (MACS) and other assessments are for teaching and learning purposes to drive our next steps for students' learning and to see growth.

Student voice, agency and leadership - As a staff we have been discussing and describing ways in which our students have a say in their learning and how we can continue to develop in this area. We’ve named and described practices in inquiry that encourage students to develop their own learning and understandings. We believe that setting student goals also develops targeted teaching and learning  as well as student ownership. As a staff we also highlighted future  recommendations to continue developing student ownership of their learning.

Our work with Kath Murdoch, educational consultant is evident of our commitment to develop student voice. She discussed with all the teachers the importance of listening and giving students feedback and recording their wonderings and thinking. Kath highlighted the importance of uncovering students' theories and understandings and trying to dig deeper into students' thinking and making connections with students first. She shared this with our school last and we continue to develop Inquiry in our students at St Fidelis.

Macssis Survey reminder to families - we’ve been discussing student voice and student agency influencing learning and teaching - as families at St Fidelis you also have an opportunity to have a voice and give us feedback on continuing the learning journey at St Fidelis. We encourage you to complete the survey by Thursday 28 October.

SPORT & PE - Michael Jennings

Last week’s Physical Education lessons involved students from Foundation having their first face to face lesson in over two months. Our Foundation students showed their soccer skills in playing the games of ‘Fruit Salad’ and ‘Foot Golf’.

The students from Years 1-6 also played the game, ‘Foot Golf,’ however the students still had to play their games remotely. The students were able to play these games by themselves or with another person. They watched videos showing them how to set up the games and then how to play the games.

We can’t wait until everyone is back at school and we can play our games altogether once again.

Check out the photos to see the fun and skills shown by our students!

LOTE - Rosa Fokianos

Salve a tutti!  (Hello everyone!)

The date is getting closer to seeing everyone back at school face to face. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone back in their regular classroom setting. 😃

A FRIENDLY REMINDER...

Last week I set a task with the Grades 3-6 to write down a favourite pasta recipe and if possible make the recipe with their family. I have received a few great pasta presentations so far but don’t worry if you haven’t handed yours in yet, there is still time...you have until tomorrow to do so.

Once we are back onsite, I’d like to also present them to the rest of their grade... which for grade 3/4 means this week! :)

Looking forward to seeing your presentations.

Buona settimana!

Signora Rosa 😃
