Acting Principal’s Report

Andrew Arney

School For Student Leadership

The School for Student Leadership is a Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET) initiative offering a unique residential education experience for year nine students from all across the state. The curriculum focuses on personal development and team learning projects sourced from students' home regions. There are three campuses in iconic locations across Victoria, with 4 lucky year 9 MGC students Scarlet Harrison, Lily Murrihy, Emily Higgins and Leanne Leong selected to attend during term 4.

Students who have attended The School for Student Leadership in the past have participated in community service, public speaking, camping, hiking, caving, mountain biking and much more, with the culmination being a presentation to families of their group community project. This is Jess Bell, Aeonie Ostik, Lola NIbali and Abigail Marsland who attended in 2019

We wish Scarlet, Lily, Emily and Leanne safe travels, and we can't wait to hear all about of your adventures in the Snowy River!

Parent Student Teacher Conferences

Our second Parent Student Teacher Conferences were held this week. They were once again a fabulous way for families, teachers and students to celebrate the learning that we have seen this term and to plan the 'where to next' as a team.

Feedback since we went to the online conferences has been overwhelmingly positive. The flexibility and convenience (not to mention not having to search for a car park on Yarra Boulevard) are notable benefits of this mode of conferences, and we will continue to seek feedback from Families and Staff on how we can maximize the benefits of these valuable chances to connect.

Thank you to Rachel Robertson (Assistant Principal of 7&8), our IT manager Anthony Keen and amazing IT department,  Mei Francis (Timetable & COMPASS Guru) and our brilliant office staff in facilitating the interviews, and of course to our amazing MGC teaching staff for everything they do each and every day to support student learning and wellbeing.

Vaccinations

As part of the COVID-19 vaccination roll-out, from Monday 13 September, all Victorians aged 12 and older are eligible to book and receive a COVID-19 vaccine at a state vaccination centre, a Commonwealth vaccination centre, or through a GP clinic, pharmacy or community health service. Students can book or change a vaccination appointment at a state vaccination centre through the Victorian Government’s COVID-19 vaccine online booking system.

Return to School

The Media are reporting that information about the roadmap for returning to school will be announced this weekend, so I encourage families and students to keep an eye on email and COMPASS over the school holidays for MGC specific updates.

Although it is impossible to predict what any loosening of restrictions will look like due to the continued volatility of the COVID situation, we are hopeful that we can see something that will allow students back on site soon. I know I can speak for all MGC staff when I say that we can't wait to get back to the hustle and bustle of 1450 students and 120 staff on site.

Finally to our students: Have a great holiday break and be sure to take the opportunities for some down time where you can and the chance to appreciate all that you still have every day. We miss you and can't wait to see you back at MGC!

Have a great week

Andrew
